Baltic Introduces The Aquascaphe Bronze Marron With A Stylish Brown Dial
The Baltic Aquascaphe is the French brand’s popular dive watch that has won the hearts of many watch enthusiasts. If you ever make a shortlist of stylish, affordable dive watches, the chances are high that this will be on it. I love the looks of this retro-inspired diver a lot, and we have seen multiple executions of the watch. Among them were two bronze versions that debuted three years ago. Now Baltic decided to change things up and create a new bronze execution. The Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze Marron introduces a brown dial and combines it with a black sapphire bezel insert to create a stylish new look for the Aquascaphe.
Much to my shame, I must admit that I had kind of forgotten about the bronze Baltic Aquascaphe models. But refreshing my memory quickly reminded me of the killer looks of the two previous bronze models. They both featured a CuAl8 bronze case and bezel for a great vintage-inspired look. Rob wrote about the stunning blue version of the watch back in 2020, and a beautiful black model followed a couple of months later. We are three years on, and for this new Marron (French for “brown”) version, the brand brings back the bronze Aquascaphe. But instead of just introducing a new dial color, Baltic also introduces a new bezel insert that changes the presence of the watch significantly,
Similar specs, charming new looks
This brown version of the Aquascaphe features the same 39mm case, which measures 12mm thick and 47mm from lug to lug. The watch has a 20mm lug spacing and is water resistant to 200 meters. The case has a nice profile with plenty of character, especially executed in CuAl8 bronze. The double-domed sapphire crystal adds more vintage appeal, but what makes it even better is the gradient brown dial.
The center is a nice shade of brown that slowly gets darker toward the edges. The numerals for 3, 6, 9, and 12 and the dots for the remaining hour markers make for a nicely balanced dial. The peripheral minute track and the hour markers are executed in a light shade of brown, and the latter are treated with Super-LumiNova. The bronze unidirectional 120-click bezel features a black sapphire crystal inlay in black with a gilt-colored diving scale. The scale consists of numerals for the 15-, 30-, and 45-minute markers, while dots mark all the other five-minute intervals. The brushed hour and minute hands are also bronze/gold-colored, with the seconds hand executed in white.
The movement
Inside the case, Baltic equips the Aquascaphe with the Miyota 9039 caliber. This automatic movement operates at 28,800vph and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. It is the go-to movement for Baltic’s Aquascaphe lineup. Miyota indicates an accuracy of +30/-10 seconds per day for this caliber.
Pricing and initial impressions of the Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze Marron
The watch comes on a black Tropic-style rubber strap with a bronze buckle to perfectly match the overall aesthetic. And I have to say that I find the aesthetic absolutely lovely. The watch gets an extra injection of vintage class with the brown dial and the new execution of the bezel. Over time, the case will develop a patina, giving each example a distinct look and character. And at just €625 excluding VAT, this CuAl8 bronze version is a very tempting offer from Baltic. The watch is available to order now, and deliveries will start at the end of April 2023.
I have to hand it to Baltic for always coming up with something good. While the new Aquascaphe Bronze Marron is in line with what we have come to know from predecessors, this new version offers plenty of differences that make this a standout release. I do not doubt that it will be another great seller for Baltic, and I can’t wait to see one up close and take it for a spin.
