Which strap do you wear your MoonSwatch on? Are you still using the original strap, or have you ordered some third-party options? Well, listen up because, in a surprise move, Swatch opened an online strap store specifically for the Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch. The two-piece straps are made of rubber and have a two-tone design, a textile texture on the outside, a Moon-like surface texture on the inside, and a Velcro closure. There are 11 color options, one for each of the original MoonSwatches, and they come in five different sizes.

Finally!

Let’s be honest: it was about time that Swatch launched a new strap collection for the popular MoonSwatch. The original straps look great, but they are a bit stiff and don’t age very well, so many people swap them out for something else. I also did that on my Mission to Saturn. My preference goes to a two-piece NATO-like strap by Esprit NATO, which matches the watch’s color well. But I also see many people who wear their MoonSwatch on a curved-end rubber strap. But now, after almost three years, Swatch has finally introduced official alternative straps. Let’s take a quick look.

All the new MoonSwatch Straps

The new official MoonSwatch straps

To find the new straps, go to the official Swatch website, and hover over the MoonSwatch menu option up top. There, you’ll find the new Straps section. To be clear, Swatch already has a section for straps on its website but not specifically for the MoonSwatch. This new section is also separate from the pre-existing strap shop.

Red option of the new MoonSwatch Straps

As mentioned, there are 11 color options, one for each of the original MoonSwatch models. The rubber straps mimic the color combinations of each of the MoonSwatches. This means they have a two-tone design with contrasting stitching and printed branding. On the short part of the strap, it says “MoonSwatch,” and on the longer part, it says “Speedmaster.” There is also an Omega × Swatch logo right next to it. Depending on the version you choose, the Bioceramic loop either comes in a contrasting or matching color.

Black and white option of the new MoonSwatch Straps

Unlike the original MoonSwatch straps, the two parts of these new rubber straps are similar in length, especially when the Velcro part is folded over. Based on the pictures on the website, the Velcro also looks less fluffy, which could mean that it wears out a little less quickly. On the inside of the strap, there’s a rubber lining in a contrasting color with a lunar-surface texture for extra comfort. The straps also come with quick-release spring bars, which makes it easy to swap them out from something else. Finally, there are five sizes (XS–XL) to accommodate 13–20.5cm wrists.

Initial impressions

From what I can see on the website, I have to say that these look like a decent option for the MoonSwatch. The colors perfectly match the various MoonSwatch models, and the straps look well made. I’m curious to see how flexible they are, but they look promising. The addition of the quick-release spring bars is a nice touch, and the fact that there are different sizes makes for a perfect fit instead of a one-size-fits-all solution. I even think that the €45 price is quite fair. Of course, there are cheaper options out there, but those won’t get you the official branding or the perfectly matching colors.

New MoonSwatch Straps

Some might say this is all too little too late. But for the people looking for a nice OEM strap option for their MoonSwatch, I think these new straps are great. The straps are only available online from Swatch’s official website. They also come with a strap-changing tool to help with removing the original strap.
