Bvlgari Presents Four Men’s Watches As Gift Ideas For The Holidays
The festive season is upon us. For those of you in need of a spectacular gift to impress or suggest, look no further. Every year, Bvlgari curates a gift guide for the holiday season. The theme this year is “Believe In Wonder”, and to save you from getting overwhelmed by a huge array of luxury items, here is a small selection to get you started. Out of the four picks, three are chronographs at different price levels in different materials.
Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph
First off, the Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph hails from a collection of sports watches launched in the ‘90s. Reintroduced in 2020, the new Aluminium range revives a distinct design language for a retro look. The use of aluminum and rubber in the original models was unconventional for luxury watches and broke the mold back in the day. Even now, especially for the Italian jeweler known for its precious metals and gemstones, it certainly adds a different dimension to its current watchmaking codes.
Improved technicality
The Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph measures 40mm in diameter and 11.1mm in thickness. The oversized rubber bezel carved with prominent Bvlgari wordmarks aims to impose its strong visual identity from the original. The warm gray dial features three black counters and Super-LumiNova-filled indexes and hands. The lugs have been reshaped to adapt to the new case size in order to enhance wearing comfort. They hold an improved rubber strap with aluminum links and an aluminum pin buckle. The aluminum case has a DLC-treated titanium back case, pushers, and crown, ensuring water resistance to 100 meters. Housed inside is the automatic caliber BVL 130. This movement based on the ETA 2894-2 runs at 28,800vph (4Hz) and provides 42 hours of power reserve. The Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph comes in an aluminum presentation box and retails for €4,750.
Octo Finissimo Steel Chronograph GMT Automatic
Inevitably finding our way back to the Octo Finissimo collection, let’s start with this all-steel GMT automatic chronograph. New to the family this year, the silver-dialed steel version retains the monochromatic style and Finissimo’s technical marvel. It is a new material iteration of the original titanium model launched in 2019 that garnered the title of the thinnest mechanical chronograph ever made. The bracelet with its three-blade folding buckle and the ultra-slim iconic case are crafted in satin-polished steel with high-polished accents. While the steel crown with a black ceramic insert adjusts the time, the pushers on the sides control the chronograph and GMT functions. Measuring 43mm in diameter and 8.75mm in thickness, the octagonal case is water-resistant to 100 meters.
The world’s thinnest mechanical chronograph
The Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic features three registers on a vertically brushed silver-tone dial. Comprising the layout are a running-seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 6 o’clock, and an additional timezone at 3 o’clock. A central chronograph hand sits on top along with a set of silver-colored hour and minute hands filled with Super-LumiNova.
Visible through the transparent case back is the in-house BVL 318 caliber with its record-setting 3.3mm-slim profile. This self-winding movement powers an integrated chronograph and GMT function. It beats to the frequency of 28,800vph (4Hz) and provides a 55-hour power reserve. The new all-steel version retails for €18,300.
The Octo Rose Gold Duo
If statement pieces are on the wish list for those very special recipients, Bvlgari is where you go for next-level indulgence. For the 10th anniversary of the Octo family, the brand has added a strong presence of gold watches to the lineup. We covered two new rose gold models introduced during Geneva Watch Days 2022. These may just be perfect to make things shine.
Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic
For the Chronograph GMT model, the faceted octagonal case is crafted in 18K rose gold. The beautiful case features an alternating satin and high-polished finish and offers water resistance to 100 meters. It is fitted with a brown alligator leather strap secured by a rose gold pin buckle. Apart from the material upgrade and strap option, all measurements and specifications are the same as the steel version. Operating the chronograph and GMT functions is the same BVL 318 movement. I already gushed about the super-cool peripheral winding weight of this incredible movement in the same article, so head over there if you would like to read about that. The Octo Finissimo Rose Gold Chronograph GMT Automatic carries a price of €36,000.
Octo Finissimo Automatic
For the classic time-only Automatic model in rose gold, it is a slightly more compact package. Its gold-on-gold full armor is 40mm in diameter and 6.4mm in thickness. The finishing is absolutely exquisite, featuring contrasting satin and polished surfaces throughout the case and the bracelet. As with the models above, this case also offers water resistance of 100 meters. The full-gold bracelet has an ergonomic construction with a seamless double-deployant buckle.
Exquisite horology
Beautifully balancing the precious metal is a lacquered brown dial with a sunray finish. Layering on top are rose-gold-tone hands, indexes, and numerals, as well as a small seconds indicator in the bottom-left quadrant. Inside the Octo Finissimo Automatic is the BVL 138 caliber, holding a world record of 2.23mm in slimness. The in-house movement boasts a new automatic winding system, a closed barrel, and a new structure for the escapement and balance.
Comprising 208 components and 31 jewels, this mechanism has a beat rate of 21,600vph (3Hz) and offers a power reserve of 60 hours. Bvlgari’s master watchmakers have also hand-finished the entire caliber with Côtes de Genève, chamfers, and perlage. You can admire its top-notch craftsmanship along with the platinum micro-rotor through the sapphire case back. The price to acquire this ultimate gift of class and appreciation is €45,000.
