CODE41 – ANOMALY 01
The Anomaly 01 was born from the desire of three enthusiasts to offer a quality watch at a fair price, while observing “total transparency on origin” (TTO). The 01 is a mechanical spectacle. It’s the result of community voting on the brand’s website, a decision made by the creators, who wanted to work directly with their customers. The result is a timepiece with strong DNA, meticulously constructed and perfectly finished. A success that exceeded all expectations; an ambitious yet successful gamble!
Case
Its 42mm 316L steel case, with black PVD coating and modular construction, graces the watch with all of its character. In addition, the PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is the best currently on the market. The finishing is also superb, and the different levels of polishing, alternating between matte and glossy, reinforce its depth and neo-futuristic look. The epitome of creativity! Then there’s the crown, ideally sized, which has been shaped to fit perfectly within the design of the watch and to make it easier to use. Finally, the case of topped off with high-quality sapphire crystal, rarely seen in this price range, which allows the timepiece’s dial to be fully appreciated.
Dial
The defining feature is its depth, made possible by the work of designers on multiple levels: the polished dial with its glossy circumference, the use of discs between the different levels. They’ve also displayed the words “Automatic” and “TTO”, the latter being the label created by CODE41. Despite said depth and references, it is still very easy to tell the time, thanks to the use of half-full hands treated with Luminova, and the contrast of the colors.
Movement
The Anomaly is powered by the ultra-reliable Japanese Miyota 82S7 movement. We won’t be able to see it through a transparent back, as a full back was chosen, featuring various marking, like the brand’s logo and the TTO lettering. Finally, the use of four Allen screws is a particularly good choice for closing the movement, thereby recalling the general spirit of the timepiece.
Strap
The strap is provided in a separate box. The packaging is really nice, as it “forces” us to take our watch, in its entirety (contained in only one box), in our hand, and have a more sensual connection with it. The leather strap is well-made and the PVD deployment clasp is very comfortable. The overall effect of the watch, strap and all, couldn’t be more beautiful. If you want a more sporty look, you’re advised to go for a black leather strap with red topstitching.
Once its on your wrist, it works its charm and the level of comfort will almost make you forget it’s there. Its unique design leaves no one unmoved, and this little mechanical gem immediately stands out! If you prefer a slightly more classic style, maybe take a look at the Anomaly 02. The 01 is clearly the timepiece many are looking for, for urban, casual or sporty looks!
