Vacheron Constantin turns 270 this year; can you believe it? To mark the occasion, the Maison is releasing several new models. Among them are eight new celebratory limited editions of Patrimony and Traditionnelle watches. We will cover the other new watches in separate articles.

I can, however, imagine you may struggle to keep up with all the Watches and Wonders 2025 releases. We are publishing articles at a blistering pace, trying to show you as many novelties as possible. Fear not, though; since the watches here are all existing models with shared limited-edition features, I will keep this article nice and brief. Let’s dive in!

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony and Traditionnelle limited editions

Okay, let’s kick things off with an overview of which eight watches received this celebratory treatment. We get four new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony references and four new Traditionnelle watches. All are existing models with a new dial texture and a new movement-finishing treatment, which I will cover in detail later on.

For the Patrimony collection, Vacheron selected the 42.5mm Moon Phase Retrograde Date in 18K white gold (ref. 4010U/000G-H057 / €58,000) and 5N pink gold (4010U/000R-H117 / €58,000). Additionally, we see two new 40mm time-and-date references, the Patrimony Self-Winding in white gold (ref. 85180/000G-H035 / €38,200) and pink gold (ref. 85180/000R-H116 / €38,200). Vacheron Constantin will release 270 of each of the moonphase models and 370 of the other two.

Among the chosen Traditionnelle models are two 38mm Traditionnelle Manual-Winding watches in platinum (ref. 82172/000P-H062 / €40,000) and pink gold (ref. 82172/000R-H118 / €28,800). VC has produced 370 of each.

Lastly, there are the 36mm Traditionnelle Moon Phase (ref. 83570/000R-H060 / €53,000) and 33mm Traditionnelle Manual-Winding (ref. 1405T/000R-H061 / €35,900), both in pink gold with diamonds, mother-of-pearl dials, and pink straps. The Fratello reader base is not typically very interested in watches like these, but I’ll include them here for completeness’s sake. Both are limited editions of 270 pieces.

The special treatment

So, what is the special limited-edition treatment these eight existing models received? It starts on the dials. For the non-mother-of-pearl versions, an intricate motif emanates from a Maltese cross at 7:30, radiating over the dial. Vacheron Constantin does not specify how this motif comes about. The brand’s website confirms that it is hand-guilloché for the more complex Traditionnelle releases that Jorg covered, but for these, it looks like a stamped pattern to me. Of course, the Maltese cross carries meaning as the brand’s logo and as the shape of a movement part regulating power flow from the barrel. Notably, the two mother-of-pearl dials have a similar (perhaps engraved) dial motif but with no Maltese cross at 7:30.

If you flip the watches over, you are greeted by a similarly delicate pattern on the caliber. This, however, is a little more involved to produce. Dubbed “côte unique,” this striping pattern presents much finer lines than typical Geneva stripes. The fine lines cross over from one plate to the next, which, apparently, caused the craftspeople at VC some headaches. The Maison reports that it took over 500 hours to get it just right for this run of limited editions.

The movements of these Vacheron Constantin Patrimony and Traditionnelle versions receive a special stamp, depicting the number 270 within a Maltese cross, in addition to the “regular” Poinçon de Genève. Lastly, an engraving of the watch’s unique number out of 370 or 270 adorns the perimeter of the case back.

Initial impressions of the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony and Traditionnelle limited editions

I always struggle with releases like these eight Vacheron Constantin Patrimony and Traditionnelle models. “Let’s do a special version of X” rarely leads to truly inspired designs. This is visible on these limited-edition dials. The pattern looks a bit contrived and unnecessary to me. It doesn’t add anything, yet it breaks the harmony of the existing design for the sake of it. Luckily, it presents quite subtly, so it doesn’t stand out too much from a regular viewing distance.

I do like the special finishing treatment on the movement. It is always good to see something a little bit different from the industry-standard finishing techniques. The very fine striping in elegantly curved trajectories looks attractive and fresh.
