Farer novelties: the new GMT Automatic
Meet Farer – British watch brand, whose name is born out of passion for travel and exploration. Their timepieces reflect the true spirit of Farer: daring, courageous and filled with ambition beyond the ordinary. After the successful launch if their first Automatic collection in November 2016, the British brand announced the next significant moment: the launch of GMT Automatic.
ART OF THE DIAL
The founders call their new collection “Art of the Dial”. The new GMT Automatic continues the brand’s distinctive design philosophy, and brings together bold colours, interesting textures and unrivalled levels of attention to detail. Each Farer timepiece is born out of the precise and detailed work, refined after the multiple rounds of prototyping, to ensure that every tiny detail is made perfectly.
Like all Farer watches, the new GMT Automatic combines precision engineering with the best materials and manufactured to the highest quality standards at renowned Swiss timepiece manufacturer, Roventa Henex, Farer’s Swiss manufacturing partners. The long standing expertise of their production is reflected in the accuracy of the measurements, the rigor of testing and the flawless attention to detail at every stage, making Farer watches designed and built to last a lifetime.
MOVEMENT
The GMT complication is one of the most useful functions of any watch, especially for those whose passion is travelling around the globe. Farer’s mechanical movement with the inclusion of the 21 jewel ETA 2893-2 ‘Top Grade’ is standing out for its accuracy and functionality. The dual time functionality runs to a frequency of 28,800 beats/hour or 4hz, with an Incabloc shock absorber system and a 42-hour power reserve. As a ‘Top Grade’ movement it is set in five positions to exacting standards by ETA using omegametric timing. The oscillating rotor features a unique cutaway design of the Farer arrow marque and sits within an elaborately decorated movement with both Perle and Colimaçonne finishes.
ICONIC NAMES
Farer’s ambition has always been about creating watches that make the perfect companion for life’s adventures. The new GMT collection continues the theme of naming each watch after iconic British explorers and vessels. From the Lander – named after Richard Lander, a young Cornish explorer who led expeditions to Nigeria. The Oxley – named after John Oxley, a Yorkshireman who after a career in the Navy was an early surveyor of Australia. Lastly, the Ponting – named after Herbert George Ponting, the photographer who accompanied Scott to the Antarctic capturing some of the most iconic images of all time.
DESIGN
All three GMT watches are water resistant up to 10 ATM. Universal in design, the watches feature a 39.5mm 316IL polished stainless steel case with juxtaposed brushed lugs. The boxed sapphire crystal glass protects vintage inspired curved dial. The signature solid bronze crown with raised Farer compass marque is designed to give each watch a real sense of life. Barenia bridle interchangeable leather straps offer a durable yet remarkably soft and luxury feel with an engraved, polished steel buckle.
