Flying First Class — Hands-On With The Breguet Type XX In Rose Gold
We published a written hands-on review on this rose gold Breguet Type XX a while ago, but we also created a video recap of the review. Click the thumbnail above to start the video.
Breguet Type XX in rose gold
Breguet’s current Type XX and Type 20 models debuted in Paris in 2023 and created quite a buzz. The rose gold version we had here for review, on the other hand, was more of a silent introduction. Still, the new Type XX Chronographe 2067 in rose gold certainly isn’t a “silent” watch. Indeed, it’s a watch that will turn some heads. Blue and rose gold go together well, and it pops even more on the NATO strap (with gold hardware).
It’s not a re-edition; it’s a tribute
The watch pays tribute to the original gold Breguet Type XX ref. 1780, which can be seen in the brand’s museum in Paris. It’s not a homage or re-edition but a modern interpretation of the Type XX. Now, I am not deaf to the comments on the date aperture and printing (although it’s so small, it appears almost as an extra line). Admittedly, though, I wear glasses. While the date aperture is something I could do without, believe it or not, after wearing this rose gold beast for a while, it did not bother me. The previous CEO told me these new Type XX were the start of the new collection, so I assume we will see (smaller) other versions of this watch in the future.
More to come
With Gregory Kissling’s appointment as CEO of Breguet, I firmly believe we will see a slightly different direction in design for new models. For starters, I would like to see Breguet use yellow gold for watches again. Perhaps a return to smaller diameters for the Classique collection would be nice too. As for the Breguet Type XX and Type 20 watches, I realized that, as always, you need to try them on before passing final judgment. I found this Type XX in rose gold very convincing on the wrist. It made me not want to return the watch. Unfortunately, my wallet had other plans. Still, this experience made me want to try the stainless steel version again.
