Fratello Talks: Don’t Let Money Stop You From Enjoying Watches
In this week’s episode of Fratello Talks, we’re making a public service announcement: don’t let money stop you from enjoying watches! This topic is close to our hearts and has come up more than once at Fratello HQ lately. So today Nacho, Lex, and Thomas gather around the microphones and hash out their thoughts on the matter. Ultimately, it’s something we can recommend to you all: don’t limit your appreciation. Ownership is a small (and somewhat arguably overrated) part of the equation. We believe it should still be possible to praise and enjoy a watch (or any other object of fascination) from a distance and on its merits alone. Arbitrarily discrediting something based on one factor eventually takes the fun out of it. That said, the watches featured in today’s wrist check are as close to us as can be; let’s see what the guys are wearing this week.
Wrist check
On Lex’s wrist today, you’ll find the Omega Speedmaster 3594.50.00, also known as the Broad Arrow. This steel-bezel Speedy is Lex’s chronograph of choice, and can you blame him? He’s wearing it on a tapering, perforated rubber strap in sage green that is not made by Joseph Bonnie but, rather, by Serica.
Thomas is rocking the incredibly light (and unforgivingly purple) Behrens 11G. As the name indicates, this watch weighs a feathery eleven grams. Its asymmetrical, curved case back serves as the movement’s base plate, giving it a rather unique look. Can we afford it? Not without a good amount of saving. But we certainly can admire it both technically and aesthetically; it’s one impressive watch.
Finally, Nacho is wearing his latest watch. It’s a 1973 Seiko Lord Matic 5606-7191 that only arrived yesterday. This charming 37mm watch is a perfect example of the kinds of treasures that can still be found out there for a reasonable price. It goes to show that you can truly get a lot of enjoyment from a watch that won’t set you back more than a couple hundred euros.
Fratello Talks: Don’t Let Money Stop You From Enjoying Watches
The title pretty much says it all. We often notice people dismissing a watch in the comments, citing the price. And though it is certainly something to consider when looking into a watch, it should not be the only factor to keep in mind. Obsessing over the price or any other factor on its own (i.e., size, water resistance, etc.) is bound to put a serious damper on the enjoyment of this shared subject of fascination. So, what can you do instead? You can accept that enjoying some things can be done from a safe distance. And while some may own said thing, it’s still okay to admire it as an onlooker. There’s far more nuance to the topic, but if you want to hear our take on it, you’ll have to tune in!
So, now that you’ve listened to our thoughts, we’d love to hear yours. Do you agree with the point raised, or do you digress? Let us know in the comments. And, as always, tune in next week for a new episode of Fratello Talks.
