Welcome back to Fratello Talks, folks! What’s the best way to spend your hard-earned cash as a watch collector? Should you splurge on many or save for one special piece? One method satisfies curiosity and is fulfilling for some, but it can also leave you with your head spinning, a full watch box, and an empty wallet. The other limits you to fewer watches, but those can, in turn, be more expensive, rare, and “special.” This is the topic of discussion for today’s podcast. Nacho is joined by Daan and Thomas, who provide their thoughts on the matter and share their experience. If this dilemma has ever haunted you, be sure to tune in; this one’s for you. If you have strong feelings on the topic, vote for your approach below! But first, let’s see what the guys have on their wrists.

Cartier Santos Galbée XL on wrist

Wrist check

We begin with Daan, who is still rocking the Cartier Santos Galbée XL. Will he ever wear another watch? At this point, we can’t truly be sure. The team has started to theorize that perhaps the clasp has broken, and he can no longer remove it but is too embarrassed to say anything. Jokes aside, can you blame him for playing favorites? Clearly, for Daan, having saved up for fewer but more significant purchases has worked out.

VPC Type 37HW Forest Green pocket shot

Thomas is rocking the VPC Type 37HW in forest green. It’s no case of a sticky clasp with this one but more so a brand owner’s loyalty to his product. It seems we’ll have to wait until VPC cooks up a new watch for us to see something different on Thomas’s wrist. But you never know; perhaps he’ll mix it up occasionally in upcoming shows. Only time will tell.

Citizen NY0040-09W wrist shot

In following the trend of sticking to what you know, Nacho is, once again, wearing a Citizen NY0040 this week. Today, though, it’s the NY0040-09W, which does away with the standard model’s glossy black dial and replaces it with a slab of lume. This glow-in-the-dark diver shines a light on Nacho’s approach (which is further cemented by the image below). Though he has managed to save up a few times now, he’s usually too busy looking to satisfy his curiosity to do so too often. He’s a serial and irreparable splurger.

Fratello Talks: Splurge On Many Or Save For The One?

Nothing beats a nice, big, full watch box. Or does it? Maybe a small watch box with just a few carefully curated watches inside and some room to slowly expand is the way to go… While we don’t claim to hold a definitive answer to this collector’s conundrum, we tackle the topic and share our experience in going for one of the two possibilities. Is it truly a subjective matter, though? There’s no better way to get to the bottom of it than by taking a vote. That’s why we’re leaving it up to you. Be sure to vote for your preferred approach below. And if you’ve cracked the mold and have a different strategy (or opinions on the two proposed), be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Tune in next Thursday for a new episode of Fratello Talks!
