This week on Fratello Talks, we examine the Patek Philippe Cubitus. Nacho, Lex, and Daan join forces to discuss this hotly debated release from one of the world’s most prestigious watch brands. Initially leaked via a magazine ad, the watch did not receive the warmest welcome from watch enthusiasts. And despite journalists at the launch event providing some positive silver lining to Patek releasing its first new collection in 25 years, the online rhetoric remained rather cynical. Today, we speak on the topic and provide our honest take on what has become one of the year’s most polarizing new releases. But before we get into it, it’s time for a wrist check.

Wrist check

With square watches in mind, you can’t blame Daan for breaking out his latest purchase, a vintage Art Deco Infra (made by Levrette) with a nicely hand-engraved 0.800 silver case. The watch is equipped with blued leaf hands and a square small seconds register that echoes the timepiece’s overall shape. It’s a vintage charmer and most definitely a conversation starter.

Lex is also dipping into the non-round-watch theme, but on his wrist, you find something a little bit more recent. It’s the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds in stainless steel. Nicely paired with a textile and leather Casa Fagliano strap, it’s a sportier take on the JLC’s classic polo-friendly timepiece.

Nacho is wearing his vintage Chronographe Suisse. With a 37mm 18K pink gold case, it’s a handsome number with incredibly wearable proportions. This particular model is powered by a Landeron 48 movement. You can read all about this watch and the brand behind it here.

Many hot takes on the Patek Philippe Cubitus have come out over the last couple of weeks. Today, we aim to provide a more reflective and balanced take on the situation as a whole. We’ve taken the time to collect our thoughts. A week after its launch (now two), we’ve had time to read about the watch and what’s been said about it by watch media, other voices online, as well as the brand itself via its president, Mr. Thierry Stern.
