Fratello Talks: The Watches We’d Like To See In 2023
Daan, Laurits, and RJ talk about the watches they would like to see introduced by brands in 2023. Daan is hoping that Vacheron Constantin will come up with a smaller Overseas, while Laurits would like to see a new Milgauss from Rolex. RJ is in for a “proper” re-edition of a gold Piaget Polo with engraved lines on the case and bracelet. What are the watches you want to see appear this year? Let us know!

Daan is wearing his Seiko SPB317 on a two-piece NATO strap, RJ is wearing his Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary, and Laurits is wearing his vintage Longines ref. 5760 on a black leather strap. Daan wrote about his Seiko SPB317 here, and you can find more information on the Silver Snoopy Award here.
The watches we’d like to see in 2023
As I wrote in the introduction, Daan is eager to see a new Vacheron Constantin Overseas but with a smaller diameter. A 36mm case size would be ideal, but he would also settle for 37mm. Vacheron offers 37mm Overseas models but clearly targets women with these diamond-set watches. The 40mm model pictured above is the brand’s answer to the Royal Oak “Jumbo” (and Nautilus), a two-hander with the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre 920-based movement. If Vacheron Constantin were to make a 36mm or 37mm version of that, it would be a winner, according to Daan.
Laurits, Fratello’s e-com manager, expects that Rolex will replace the current Milgauss models with something new. It will at least have an updated movement but perhaps a slimmer case as well, as we saw with the Air-King in 2022. RJ is going Goodfellas with his hopes, wishing for a re-edition of the 1970s Piaget Polo watch — in gold, of course. The current Polo doesn’t do it for him. It’s too tame, even though Piaget is a brand that can easily get away with more daring designs. The Piaget back catalog has some pretty interesting watches, such as the Polo below with the engraved lines in the case and bracelet.
Besides the three watches mentioned above, we talk about the wishes we have for some of the other brands as well, like Swatch, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Patek Philippe, Blancpain, and Breguet. We hope that this year will be an amazing one in terms of new watch releases, and we are curious about your wishes for 2023. What watches would you like to see from your favorite brand(s)?
