Greenish Blue With Envy: H.Moser & Cie Pioneer MEGA Cool Collection
Moser leads off its 2021 novelties with a pair of bold new blue green pieces. Enter the Pioneer MEGA Cool lineup!
When it comes to Moser, the dials are often the star of the show. With the new Pioneer MEGA Cool collection, that trend continues in serious fashion. This is a two piece lineup that brings some small yet noticeable differences versus other watches in this collection. Let’s have a look at the two models.
Moser Pioneer MEGA Cool Centre Seconds
Leading things off is the “volume” model. The Pioneer MEGA Cool Centre Seconds is a time only piece in a sculpted 42.8mm by 10.6mm stainless case with textured and hollowed out flanks. The watch is powered by the in-house HMC 200 automatic with three days of power reserve. This is certainly one of the sportier Moser models with Super-LumiNova hands and pips on the angled rehaut. Furthermore, it features a screw down crown and screw-in display case back. The watch is ready to take the plunge down to 120 meters. What’s nice here is that these normal production pieces are available on kevlar, alligator or a bracelet.
It’s time to mention the dial on the Pioneer MEGA Cool Centre Seconds because it’s a beauty. Moser chose a blue green hue that they call Blue Lagoon fumé and it’s incredible. The other difference here is that the brand logo exists in clear lacquer so as not to take away from the rest of the dial. Other cool highlights are anthracite indices, hands, and that rehaut.
Pricing begins at €14,600, so that makes it an interesting alternative to a lot of high end brands that produce luxury sporty watches. Of course, with something like the Moser Pioneer MEGA Cool Centre Seconds, you’ll stand out from the crowd of those other brands. I’m a fan of this watch on the Kevlar because it really highlights the dial. On steel, it just doesn’t as much for me. Overall though, this is a real beauty.
Moser Pioneer MEGA Cool Tourbillon
Next up is the Moser Pioneer MEGA Cool Tourbillon. Now, I’ll start right off by saying that a tourbillon fascinates me visually, but I find them a bit delicate and fussy. Moser seeks to remedy that by offering this watch in the same sporty robust 42.8mm steel case with just 10.8mm of thickness. Once again, a screw-down crown helps bring water resistance up to 120 meters. The press material even touts the ability to use this watch in the gym and that the movement is more easily serviceable due to its “plug and play” construction. The watch uses the HMC 804 automatic with three days power reserve. Of note, it has an 18k rotor with skeletonized bridges.
This watch is limited to 50 pieces and features the same Blue Lagoon fumé dial with the exception of the movement shining through at 6:00. The same luminous exists here as well as the logo that is engraved into clear lacquer. The same bracelet and strap options also exist. At €52,400, this piece is a bit richer than the Centre Seconds, but just imagine hitting your every other day cross-fit class with this strapped to the wrist!
