Hands-On With The IFL Watches G-Shock CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions — Taking Colorful To The Next Level
If you have kept your eyes open over the last few years, you have probably seen some crazy timepieces from IFL Watches. This young brand from Stockholm takes regular watches and transforms them into colorful timepieces that are one of a kind. And as you may know, the brand is also no stranger to customizing G-Shock’s popular “CasiOak” models. In the next step with G-Shock’s popular model line, IFLW now introduces the CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions. These smaller CasiOak watches come with extravagant dials and candy-inspired names. Who is ready for summer?
IFL Watches has quickly made a name for itself in the world of watches. I first heard of the company with its release of the first run of customized quartz Tissot PRX watches. As an owner and fan of the PRX, I was impressed by the creative dial design and seriously considered buying one. In the end, I decided to pass on it because I had other watches to spend money on. Nevertheless, I must admit that the PRX Arctic Sky and Midnight Sky versions did pop up once in a while, and I was reminded how much I liked them. I do not regret watch decisions in general, but the occasional “Should I have…?” does pop into my head when it comes to those.
IFL Watches’ focus on G-Shock CasiOaks
For IFLW, watch modifications started with the popular G-Shock CasiOaks. The brand’s creative director Chris Alexander, aka @thedialartist, hand paints the dials of the different CasiOaks that IFLW has released. Each one is a time-consuming work of art, as he explained to Fratello’s own Thor in an interview. The impact of his work has definitely been noticed by watch fans all over the globe. In the newest step for the brand, IFL Watches bring us the G-Shock CasiOak Jelly Splash.
This new series consists of four bespoke watches with unique dials that will be offered in a limited run of 100 pieces per color. The four watches have the inspiring names Cotton Dream (transparent), Grape Fizz (purple), Licorice Rush (black), and Cerulean Swirl (turquoise). While the colors and the names might focus on the fun aspect, the work that goes into creating the unique dials is serious business. Each dial is meticulously hand-painted by Alexander to create something unique. Additionally, the Rainbow bezel matches the UV-resistant airbrushed and pearlized hour markers nicely on all 400 of these distinctive and fun pieces.
The smaller CasiOak model
In a fun twist, the four watches are not the usual CasiOaks but rather the model from the CasioOak Mini Collection. With a case that is 42.9mm wide, 46.2mm long, and 11.2mm thick, their size is very modest compared to some of the full-size G-Shocks. This makes the models the perfect size for both men and women. The case is water resistant to 200 meters and comes fitted with a mineral crystal.
In terms of functionality, the watches are in line with the regular models. This means the watches come equipped with Casio Module 5611. It has regular features like a full auto-calendar until 2099, five daily alarms, and 31 time zones (48 cities + coordinated universal time). The module runs at ±15 seconds per month, and you only need to change batteries once every three years.
The G-Shock CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions on the wrist
The specs and functions are nice and all, but it’s obviously all about the colorful impact here. And once you put these G-Shock CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions on the wrist, a couple of things stand out. First, the modest size wears very nice for both men and women. The marketing campaigns for these smaller models tend to target women, but don’t let that fool you. As it is a colorful series of watches, they have more than enough impact, even in a smaller size. The four different colors of resin that these G-Shocks come in are wildly different.
Of the four, I prefer the transparent Cotton Dream or the black transparent Licorice Rush as they are the more neutral colors that make the dial stand out. On top of that, the purple Grape Fizz and turquoise Cerulean Swirl are more “feminine” colors. Speaking of colors, if you zoom in on the dial with a loupe, you truly get an idea of the work that went into creating these dials. And I have to say, it’s quite spectacular. A detail that we loved in the Fratello offices is that Alexander painted over the G-Shock and Casio names, essentially covering the branding. But if you look carefully, you will still see hints of the logo under the paint.
Final thoughts about the CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions
I like what IFLW does quite a bit. And by modding CasiOaks, the brand shows that customized watches are not just for the happy few with a lot of money. As a result, you can have a unique G-Shock if you can get your hands on one of these limited editions for €599. I say “if” because, yes, they will go fast. The watches all come in a custom IFLW watch box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a reassuring two-year warranty.
The creativity that can go into creating colorful G-Shocks is endless. I have to hand it to IFL Watches for finding a way of customizing that watch brands themselves even love. IFLW is also an authorized dealer of Casio, which opens doors to more models and, in the end, results in more creative options for the watches.
I can’t wait to see what is next for IFL Watches after this undoubtedly popular series of G-Shock CasiOaks. With a few customized Oris divers and the Tissot PRX already in the books, the sky is the limit. For now, these CasiOak Jelly Splash Limited Editions make for a series of great summer watches.
