Hands-On With The Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver
Back in 1854, voyaging was extremely expensive. The main form of transport was a carriage or a train and there was no luggage. Louis Vuitton exploited the full potential of the growing automotive industry and by designing the first collection of trunks with a view of customers’ needs. Le Voyage — is the most significant manifesto of Louis Vuitton’s brand identity.
Today, Nicolas Ghesquière and Virgil Abloh shape Louis Vuitton. They not only represent more contemporary references in their collections but also mix comfort with an extreme fashion statement. I believe that so many of you are fans of bags decorated in all-over Louis Vuitton monogram, or reinvented streetwear. But what about watches? Are they a strong suit of this brand?
Louis Vuitton And Watches
The first watch produced by Louis Vuitton had its premier in 2002. The round Tambour possessed everything that we can think of when we think of Louis Vuitton — the famous monogram and some contemporary features. In 2011, the French luxury Maison acquired La Fabrique du Temps. The Swiss watch manufacturer is responsible for the quality standards of Louis Vuitton watches and further developments. Also La Fabrique du Temps assembles the movements.
Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver
Dive watches are probably one of the most popular styles of watches. There are many advantages of having a killer diver. Firstly, you can easily enjoy your watch on holiday without being worried about it. Secondly, if you opt for the right design it can be very versatile. The design of the Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver embraces the brand’s code. It has a modern edge and it’s a utilitarian fashion accessory. The case, made of black-PVD and pink gold, measures 44mm in diameter. Undoubtedly it’s large however, it doesn’t seem so when it’s on the wrist. Despite its thickness and size, I find it very comfortable. What’s surprised me the most were two screw-down crowns. One is responsible for adjusting the time and the other is for the inner rotating bezel. The water resistance is 100m.
The Signature Louis Vuitton Dial
The standout feature of the Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver is the dial. If you look at the letter V on the diving scale it’s rotating along with the V placed on the minute hand. Also, the small second sub-dial harmonizes perfectly with the design adding extra depth. Another powerful trait is the choice of colors — pink gold juxtaposed with white Super-LumiNova accents and black looks very fancy.
Very LV Caseback
An automatic movement powers the Louis Vuitton Tambour Street Diver providing basic functions like hours, minutes, seconds. The rotor with the Louis Vuitton logo nicely decorates the automatic movement. Nevertheless, the most surprising detail is the transparent case back with a printed large black LV logo.
My Take On The Tambour Street Diver
I feel this watch is well done. It’s not an extraordinary concept that deserves huge hype, but it is a well-made watch with an interesting fashion-inspired design and a decent mechanism. I like how sporty it looks and I believe that this season will belong to black watches with red gold accents. What are your thoughts? Have you ever thought of buying a watch from a luxury fashion brand? The price of the Tambour Street Diver starts at €5,600. Although, this price only applies to the case of the watch. Price of the bracelet depends on your choice.
