Hot Take: The New Nezumi Tonnerre Monochrome Chronograph
Stockholm-based Nezumi Studios has been in business since 2011 and making affordable, traditionally designed watches since 2015. The focus is on sporty pieces, such as divers, GMTs, chronographs, and field watches. Now a new variant enters the collection. The Tonnerre Monochrome chronograph, with its classic color scheme, is sure to be a hit.
Nezumi’s watches are hard to dislike. The designs are familiar yet fresh and use reliable Japanese movements. Also, all the pieces are assembled in Germany. Best of all, most models are available for around €500. For someone interested in a non-mainstream brand, these are solid options. Today, we get one more with the Tonnerre Monochrome chronograph.
The Nezumi Tonnerre Monochrome
Earlier this year, we covered the 38mm Tonnerre with its aqua sub-dials and blue or white dial option. Most of our readers loved the design, details, and relative value. If those colors weren’t to your liking, perhaps the new Tonnerre Monochrome will be of interest. The watch uses a 38mm by 45.5mm stainless steel case with lyre lugs. It has a sapphire crystal and a 50m water resistance rating. This watch is also available on black or brown leather straps or a five-row steel bracelet. Inside, it uses the familiar Seiko VK63 meca-quartz movement.
A new dial
The Tonnerre Monochrome has a matte black dial with applied indices. It also features battleship-gray sections on two sub-dials, namely, the 60-minute counter and 24-hour indicator. In the center, Super-LumiNova-filled brushed syringe hands are paired with a light gray chronograph seconds hand. These hands contrast with the small black needle indicators within the sub-dials. Overall, it’s a great-looking chronograph that looks like it could have been made during the ’60s.
Little details
Fans like the attention to detail from Nezumi. The trend continues on the Tonnerre Monochrome with a high-relief-engraved screw-in case back and signed crown. Additionally, the pump pushers contain circular machining marks. The case also impresses with its finely brushed surfaces. All told, it’s an overachieving effort considering the price point.
Availability and pricing
The Tonnerre Monochrome is available for €345 on a leather strap or €415 on the bracelet on the official Nezumi website. It’s a great option for those looking for a grab-and-go chronograph with a timeless design. Have you tried a Nezumi? If so, feel free to let us know your impressions.
