Hot Take: The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Enamel Seddiqi
The Ulysse Nardin Freak, with its open-worked dial and flying carousel movement, is one of the watch world’s most recognizable timepieces. It has also become a popular platform for collaborations. The latest of these is the new Freak X Enamel Seddiqi featuring a titanium case and guilloché dial.
Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the leading luxury watch retailer in the Middle East, has partnered with Ulysse Nardin to create an attractive limited edition. The Freak X Enamel Seddiqi blends modern looks with traditional dial-finishing techniques. The color is also a refreshing twist for the Freak X.
The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Enamel Seddiqi
Ulysse Nardin has chosen “grey” titanium for this new edition. We presume this is standard titanium, but it takes on a darker tone on account of the brushed and media-blasted surfaces. The case dimensions are 43mm by 50mm. Also, Ulysse Nardin states that the watch has a perceived thickness of 10mm, but the total is 13.78mm with the domed sapphire crystal. The watch comes with a patterned black rubber strap and folding titanium buckle. Optional rubber straps from Delugs are also available.
A guilloché dial in “Yas Blue” enamel
Instead of a modern surface, the Freak X Enamel Seddiqi has a classic guilloché dial (which is, in fact, the hour disc) with white Super-LumiNova details on the indexes and hands. Seddiqi chose a “Yas Blue” enamel inspired by the setting sun over the Gulf of Arabia to color the backdrop. It comes off as blue-green and adds a different look to the normally steampunk-esque design. Ulysse Nardin has offered other guilloché versions, but this is the best-looking hue on a Freak I’ve seen!
The familiar UN-230 movement
Ulysse Nardin’s in-house automatic UN-230 caliber powers the Freak X Enamel Seddiqi. This modern movement provides 72 hours of power reserve, uses a silicon balance wheel, and comprises 206 components. It has a frequency of 21,600vph and is viewable through the front and back of the case.
Availability
The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Enamel Seddiqi is a limited edition of 30 pieces. It is priced at AED 154,000 or CHF 38,500. As mentioned, I think this is one of the most attractive Freak models due to the color combination of titanium and Yas Blue. For more information, visit the official Ulysse Nardin website.
