Hot Take: Tudor Presents A “Flamingo Blue” Version Of Its Black Bay Chrono
In March last year, Tudor revealed a daring version of its Black Bay Chrono with a pink dial. Leading up to the release, some people already spotted the watch on David Beckham’s and Jay Chou’s wrists. The same happened this week with, again, British football superstar David Beckham and Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jay Chou. Both of them were wearing a Tudor Black Bay Chrono with what looked like a turquoise dial. Well, today, Tudor takes away all our doubts because the new Tudor Black Bay Chrono with a “Flamingo Blue” dial is now officially available, even to non-superstars.
Pink is a color more brands play around with from time to time, especially on limited editions related to the fight against breast cancer, for example. In Tudor’s case, there isn’t a specific cause behind the use of these tropical colors other than the Miami South Beach vibe that serves as a theme. Oh, and if you thought blue flamingos didn’t exist, you’re totally right.
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue”
It’s funny because last year’s pink version of the Black Bay Chrono was simply called “Pink.” Strangely enough, the new turquoise version is called “Flamingo Blue.” Anyway, let’s get right to the specs, which aren’t all too surprising. The Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” has the same 41mm stainless steel case as the other Black Bay Chrono models in the collection. That means the lugs span 50.1mm from tip to tip, and the case, including the double-domed sapphire, is 14.4mm thick. The screw-down pushers and crown help keep the watch water resistant to a depth of 200 meters.
Like the pink and the blue Boutique Edition of the Black Bay Chrono, the new “Flamingo Blue” version also comes on a five-row Jubilee-style bracelet. It features a T-fit folding clasp. This gives you some room to adjust it on the go without having to use any tools. Both the case and bracelet have polished and satin-brushed finishes.
The matte dial is a bright turquoise color. Both sub-dials are black, and the applied indexes and Snowflake handset contain white lume. The date window at 6 o’clock also has a white background, while the aluminum tachymeter bezel insert is black.
As expected, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono is powered by the chronometer-rated Breitling 01-based MT5813 chronograph caliber. The automatic movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph, features 47 jewels, and holds a power reserve of 70 hours. The chronograph functions with both a column wheel and a vertical clutch.
What do you think?
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono has a rather original dial color, especially because of the “Flamingo Blue” name. Last year’s pink version was already very popular. I expect this turquoise version to be even more popular, to be honest. I heard it can be quite hard to get your hands on the pink version, so it probably won’t be too easy for this new version either. Neither of these Miami South Beach models are limited editions, but it just seems Tudor has a hard time keeping up with the demand.
The new Tudor Black Bay Chrono with a “Flamingo Blue” dial costs €5,990 and is available now. Let me know in the comments below what you think of this new addition by Tudor.
