Introducing: A Flash Of Gold With The Venezianico Nereide Aureo
The Venezianico Nereide Aureo is the latest release from the small Venetian brand. It’s also a dive watch with interesting materials and processes that come together at an affordable price. Let’s check out this intriguingly colored watch.
We’ve looked at several Venezianico watches on Fratello and have been impressed with them. Today’s Nereide Aureo uses the brand’s diver case but adds several upscale touches. It brings a different, unexpected look to a dive watch. I’m a fan of the colorway and am interested to hear your thoughts.
The Venezianico Nereide Aureo
The Venezianico Nereide Aureo is a 42mm by 49mm dive watch in stainless steel. It features a screw-down crown and is water resistant to 200 meters. As expected, a sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating is in place, but the thickness is still reasonable at just 12.5mm. One of the nicer additions to the watch, especially compared to other Nereide models, is the polished bezel insert. This component is tungsten, which is a cool touch.
The gold-plated dial
The Nereide Aureo is most noticeable because of its golden dial. Look closely, though, and you’ll see the spangled treatment on its surface. Venezianico explains that it has created these dials in the spirit of laminated metals that often adorn churches, such as the San Marco Basilica in Venice. Here, the dials are tumbled to create surface imperfections and then placed in an electrolytic bath where 24K gold is applied to the surface. Then, several layers of varnish are used to protect the dial.
The result is a unique surface that pairs well with a brushed gold-tone minute track and polished, applied indexes. The applied logo, polished handset, and Super-LumiNova appointments make for an elegant and expensive-looking diver. Even the date aperture has a polished frame that adds to the allure.
The Nereide Aureo ushers in a new bracelet design called the Sansovino. It has brushed and polished surfaces that match the case. The links are held together by screws, and the push-button clasp offers pin holes for micro-adjustment.
The Sellita SW200-1
The Nereide Aureo has a stainless steel case back held by six screws. An engraved basilica is on the surface, which is quite different for a diver! Inside, Venezianico has chosen the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. This stalwart powertrain runs at 28,800vph with 41 hours of power reserve. The normal Nereide collection uses the Seiko NH35, so this is a nice upgrade.
Thoughts, pricing, and availability
The Nereide Aureo will be available on July 26th at 15:00 BST (GMT+1) for pre-order on the brand’s website. The pre-order price is €1,035 and will increase to €1,295 after an undefined period. This watch is also a limited edition of 500 pieces. Overall, I think this is a highly attractive diver that seems to offer significant value. The gold-plated dial and tungsten bezel are rather distinct offerings that separate the watch from other affordable small-brand divers. I’m eager to hear your thoughts too.
