Introducing: A New Colorful Limited Edition Of The Nezumi Baleine Dive Watch
Nezumi has quite a few impressive tricks up its sleeve. Only a few weeks ago, I reviewed the brand’s Adventure Trio. It’s a series of watches that will help you with whatever challenge you encounter during your travels. With a GMT, a diver, and a field watch, Nezumi has you covered in any situation. The Stockholm-based brand decided to give its Baleine dive watch a colorful makeover for its next release. This new 200-piece limited edition gives Nezumi’s serious diver a playful look that might make it the perfect summer watch. It’s time to find out more!
Thinking back on that Nezumi Adventure Trio, initially, the idea of purchasing three aesthetically linked watches to take on your travels might have seemed a bit far-fetched. But on second thought, I like the concept of having a trio of watches that will help you in any situation. Especially if you like the design signature of a brand, it becomes a lot easier to understand. And I do like the aesthetic that David Campo (founder and chief designer of Nezumi) has given its watches. While there is a certain familiarity in their designs, each still stands out as a Nezumi creation.
The Nezumi Baleine Dive Watch Limited Edition
Because I have a healthy obsession with GMT watches, the Nezumi Aviera GMT is my favorite part of the Adventure Trio. But once I tried out the brand’s Baleine dive watch, that also quickly won me over. It combines vintage-inspired character with a solid set of modern specs to make for a very appealing and affordable dive watch. At just under €600, there aren’t that many dive watches that combine looks and specs as well as the Nezumi Baleine.
While the regular Baleine is a serious dive watch with an equally serious look, the new LE adds a nice bit of color that completely transforms the watch’s presence. However, looking at the two watches closely, we see that Nezumi’s designer, David Campo, only adjusted two main elements. They add a fair bit of color, but the principle is easy.
The design changes for the Nezumi Baleine Limited Edition
In the first step, the minute track with the integrated 24-hour scale on the dial’s periphery now has a ring consisting of three different colors. There are four parts, obviously, but if you look closely, there are only three colors. The first part, from 12 to 3 o’clock, is orange. The sections from 3 to 6 o’clock and 9 to 12 o’clock are turquoise, and the portion from 6 to 9 o’clock is pink. It’s a rather funky set of colors that I adore.
In the next step, the hands also get a different color. As the watch only has three hands, you will also understand why the Nezumi team used only three colors for the minute track. The hour hand is turquoise, the minute hand is pink, and the seconds hand is orange. All three are treated with Super-LumiNova, like the large cream-colored numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, the trapezoidal markers for the remaining hours, and the numerals and markers on the aluminum bezel insert. As a result, this colorful watch by day also lights up bright in the dark.
A set of modern specs for the Baleine LE
Regarding basic specs, the Baleine has a 40mm stainless steel case that is 13.1mm thick and 47mm long. The watch offers a 20mm lug spacing, a 200m depth rating, a screw-down crown, and a 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel. Inside the case, Nezumi equips the watch with the Miyota 9039. This automatic caliber operates at 28,800vph and has 24 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve.
The movement is safely hidden behind the stainless steel screw-in case back, which has the signature Nezumi engraving we saw on the three watches of the Adventure Trio. The back also states that this is a limited edition.
Lastly, this special 200-piece limited edition is delivered with two different straps. The first is a black leather strap with contrasting stitching. The second is a turquoise rubber strap that matches the turquoise color used on the dial and hour hand. The latter strap would be my preferred option as it makes this special edition of the Baleine a stand-out summer diver.
Final thoughts on the Nezumi Baleine Limited Edition
Every spring, watch fans start looking for the perfect summer watch. Like so many of us, I love a good summer dive watch that doesn’t break the bank but puts a smile on my face with its design. And that is exactly what this Nezumi Baleine LE does. Add the solid set of specs and the affordable price, and that smile just got even bigger. The colorful Nezumi Baleine Limited Edition is available now for €590 before taxes. Including Dutch 21% VAT, for example, brings the total to roughly €714. What you get for the money is a colorful and fun version of a serious and affordable dive watch. The combination of both makes this one of the top summer watches of 2024.
