It’s no secret that we are fans of the Tissot PRX here at Fratello. Multiple team members, including yours truly, own a PRX Powermatic 80, so we meet any new addition to the lineup with great interest. The latest expansion of the extensive PRX collection is a pair of red-dial versions of the PRX Quartz in 35mm and 40mm cases. We had a chance to see them up close and find out how these compare to the other models in the collection.

Putting a Tissot PRX on my wrist is like coming home. I have had my black-dial version for three years at this point and still love it to bits. I might not wear it as religiously as I used to when I first bought it, but any time I do, it puts a smile on my face. The watch never loses any of its impact. As a result, I have considered adding a second one to my collection. Naturally, I would choose a light dial color to contrast the black dial of the one I already own. Lex’s ice-blue variant is a great option, just like the light minty-green version. The new red-dial options might be PRX Quartz models, but they have just become part of that equation as well.

The story of the red-dial Tissot PRX Quartz

Let’s take a look at these two new PRX models. As most of you will know, the Tissot PRX is available in 35mm and 40mm sizes. Additionally, you have the choice between quartz and automatic models. While both are great options, our favorites are the mechanical Powermatic 80 versions. Not only do they offer the charm of a mechanical caliber, but the dials also have extra depth and detail thanks to the standout “waffle” pattern.

The two new models, as quartz versions, forgo the waffle pattern but combine a sunburst finish with a bright red shade that stands out from the rest of the models immediately. Sunburst dials are also not new for the PRX, as we’ve seen several other colors, such as green, blue, silver, gold, and brown.

Therefore, these two new red-dial versions help fill out the collection even more. A glance at the total number of PRX variations shows that there are currently 52 models to choose from. It’s an impressive number, and saying there isn’t a PRX for you would be surprising. As mentioned, I could easily pick another two or three options that I love.

The details of the new Tissot PRX Quartz models

But let’s focus on the new red-dial options for this article and discuss the details of both models. We’ll kick things off with the larger of the two, which measures 40mm in diameter and is 10.4mm thick. The tonneau-shaped case matches with an integrated bracelet that features a Tissot-branded butterfly clasp.

The smaller of the two measures 35mm in diameter and 9.6mm thick. Inside the 40mm and 35mm cases of these models, you will find the ETA F06.115 or F05.115, respectively. These three-jewel quartz movements feature HeavyDrive technology and an end-of-life indicator.

With that out of the way, let’s focus on the dials. The new red sunburst dials are vivid. They command attention compared to some of the darker options. What immediately came to my mind was the annual string of Chinese New Year’s releases with red dials. Just to be clear, these are not part of that, but that is when red dials get special attention. Apart from that fun reference, the dials give the watches plenty of visual brilliance. They have the same slim applied hour markers as previous models and the seemingly oversized handset we’ve come to know and love. Both the hour and minute hands are filled with lume to help you read the time in the dark.

The red-dial PRX Quartz models on the wrist

I have always loved the little details of the PRX, like the smart mix of brushed and polished parts on the bracelet. The links have a mostly brushed finish, but the short edges in between the links are polished. As a result, they reflect light and create little shimmers that constantly draw my eyes to them. Clever details like this show the thought that has gone into developing these watches. Combine them with a powerful dial color like this sunray red one, and you will get a watch that makes an impact on your wrist.

That is also the biggest difference compared to my black-dial PRX, so it was great to have a chance to wear a version with a bright dial. In terms of sizing, the 40mm version feels right at home on my wrist. Having said that, the 35mm version also wears great. It had been quite a while since I tried one of these, but I must say that it didn’t feel out of place on my wrist despite my preference for the bigger version.

That’s also what I love about Tissot’s big hit. With 35mm and 40mm versions plus a wide array of dial colors, there is a PRX for everyone. These red dials round out the collection nicely and make us wonder what is next for the hugely popular PRX line. It will be interesting to find out. For now, these new red-dial models are lively additions to the lineup that can be yours for €395. Let us know what you think of them in the comments below!
