Introducing: New Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Star Bar Limited Editions
Today, Seiko is introducing a pair of new Presage Cocktail Time watches inspired by drinks from the famous Star Bar in Tokyo. As we’ll see, there’s a watch aimed at ladies and one targeted at gents as well. Both feature gradation dials that take their cues from drinks by master cocktail maker Hisashi Kishi and the Tokyo sunset.
In September 2022, Seiko announced its first collaboration with the top-rated Star Bar and Hisashi Kishi, its head bartender. Seiko chose to use its Presage Cocktail Time watch as the foundation for a pair of watches with partially open dials. However, with their 40.5mm case diameters, both models were aimed at men. Today, we have a new pair of watches in two sizes. Let’s take a closer look.
The Star Bar SRPK75 “Purple Sunset”
The first new Presage Cocktail Time Star Bar limited edition is the SRPK75 “Purple Sunset.” This is the gents’ piece, and it features a stainless steel case with a 40.5mm diameter, a 47.5mm lug-to-lug, and an 11.8mm thickness. It is paired with a burgundy 20mm calfskin strap and a folding push-button clasp. Seiko uses its 4R35 automatic movement inside, which offers hacking seconds, a date function, and a 41-hour power reserve. It’s on display via the transparent case back. As this is a more affordable model, Seiko uses a Hardlex crystal, but the watch is relatively usable for daily wear with its 50m water resistance rating.
The SRPK75 takes its name from the Purple Sunset cocktail on the Star Bar menu. The drink itself is layered, and this is replicated on the dial. We see that it begins with a light burgundy at 6 o’clock, and the layers darken to a deep purple as they approach 12. Normally, that would sound like a lot happening, but it looks nice here, especially due to the rose-gold-colored hands and hour markers. Seiko will produce 9,000 individually numbered pieces, and the price will be £490.
The SRE014 “Pinky Twilight”
Next, we have the Cocktail Time SRE014. Like the larger model, the “Pinky Twilight” also takes its name from the Star Bar menu. This piece has a gold-coated 30.3 × 37 × 10.9mm stainless steel case and uses a Hardlex crystal. Here, the 2R05 automatic is in play, and it brings similar specifications, including a 40-hour power reserve, a quick-set date, and hacking. The same 50m water resistance also applies. A brown 14mm calfskin strap features a plated deployant buckle, which, here too, features a push-button clasp.
The Pinky Twilight takes a lighter tone than the Purple Sunset, and this results in a gradation dial that flows from yellow to light pink. The hands and indices match the shade of gold on the case, which makes for a cohesive design. This watch is even more pleasing to my eye. Seiko will produce fewer pieces of this Star Bar Pinky Twilight model, totaling 5,000 numbered examples, each with a price of £520.
Thoughts and availability
The Presage Cocktail Time series is incredibly popular for those looking for a good everyday watch that falls into the more formal category. It’s a frequent recommendation, and when people ask me to suggest a reliable, semi-dressy mechanical watch, this is the ticket. As far as these Star Bar pieces, they’re attractive and priced well. Plus, they each add yet another option to the large selection within this line. Finally, with high production numbers for both, they should be readily available once they hit the market in February.
