Introducing: The Limited-Edition Sinn 103 St Ty Hd — A Stylized, Hand-Wound Version Of A Classic
The Sinn 103 is one of the oldest models in the brand’s catalog. It is a classic pilot’s chronograph that has been around since the 1960s. Today, the 103 is equipped with an automatic movement. However, some early versions came with hand-wound calibers. This latest limited edition follows that template. Let’s have a closer look.
The Sinn 103 St Ty Hd is priced at €2,590 and limited to 1,000 units.
Sinn 103 St Ty Hd specifications
At heart, this is a pilot’s chronograph. Sinn uses a 41mm steel case that normally measures 15.9mm thick. However, this new hand-wound version reduces that to 14.8mm, including the domed acrylic crystal. The push-pull crown and non-screw-down pushers also utilize Sinn’s D3-System, keeping the watch pressure resistant to 20 ATM.
Normally, you get an archetypal 6-9-12 sub-dial layout and day and date at 3 o’clock. The Sinn 103 St Ty Hd, however, comes with a beautiful 3-6-9 layout and no day or date. This is thanks to the Sellita SW510 M caliber inside. It ticks at a 28,800vph frequency and lasts up to 58 hours on a full wind.
The dial and hands are lumed with a subtle yet functional application of Super-LumiNova. Additionally, the bidirectional black-coated bezel features a Super-LumiNova triangle along with a fully graduated 60-minute scale. This matches well with the included black strap and its white stitching, but the Sinn 103 St Ty Hd also comes with an olive-green strap with red stitching, as shown in these photos.

However, the most noticeable change to the regular 103 is the dial. It is remarkably colorful for a Sinn design. In fact, it gives the new 103 limited edition a bit of a ’70s vibe. This is probably due to the use of champagne and dark red, paired with black. The roulette-wheel styling on one-third of the minute counter also surely supports that association.
At heart, this is a reverse panda dial. Compared to the typical white-on-black scheme, however, this combination of champagne and black feels much warmer. Another difference with the regular 103 is the presence of a tachymeter around the perimeter of the dial.
Additionally, the handset is simpler than the syringe handset on the normal model. Here, we get simple pencil hands for the hours and minutes. The chronograph seconds hand is executed in the same muted dark red. If you like your vintage Heuer chronographs but want modern Sinn build quality, this could be right up your alley.
