Introducing: The New Panerai Luminor Marina Collection
For those who love Panerai but have hoped for thinner references, 2025 could be the year! The new Luminor Marina collection is here, bringing a flurry of upgrades and changes over the previous generation. A slimmer, newly designed case comes with a new movement and an increased water resistance rating. Let’s have a closer look.
Panerai is a brand that resonates with so many of us in the watch-collecting community. The company made one of the first watches I ever lusted after, and I still look forward to the annual new releases. Currently, smaller and thinner watches are on trend, which is a challenging spot for Panerai. The updated Luminor Marina collection isn’t becoming petite, but it is thinner now.
The new Panerai Luminor Marina collection
As expected, the new Luminor Marina lineup includes several new references. Different dial colors, straps, and case materials are all a part of the announcement. The 44mm case size remains, but the big news is a 12% reduction in thickness, giving the watches a pleasant 13.4mm profile. Also, while Panerai has produced some lightweight diver-inspired references in recent years, these new Luminor Marina models have gained capability. The outgoing ones were rated water resistant to 300 meters. The depth rating now increases to 500 meters, which should please the spec hounds.
Other details worth noting are the sandwich dials and the use of Super-LumiNova X2. Also, all date wheels match the dials. The Click Release System is also used on the straps and bracelet, making changes a breeze. Aesthetically, an update that many will appreciate is the loss of the blue small seconds hand. It is now polished metal again.
A new caliber — the P.980
Panerai has also chosen the Luninor Marina to receive its new caliber, the P.980. This automatic caliber appears to be a P.900 with enhanced finishing. The reason for the extra effort is the inclusion of a new sapphire display case back, which replaces the former solid version. In terms of performance, Panerai tests the automatic movement in six positions for accuracy. Like many of the brand’s calibers, it has a lengthy three-day power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph.
Five new Luminor Marina references
Panerai buyers seem to like options, and the new Luminor Marina collection has them in spades. Some remind me of models from the early 2000s, while others utilize new dial shades. Let’s run through them quickly.
PAM03312
The Luminor Marina ref. PAM03312 is the most traditional-looking model. It contains a matte black dial with a brushed stainless steel case and polished bezel. The black crocodile strap is fitted with ecru stitching. This version will retail for €8,900.
PAM03313
The PAM03313 reminds me of when I first looked at buying a Panerai in 2001. Its rich dark blue dial looks great in the new case. Years ago, I associated blue-dial Panerai watches with titanium cases, but this one’s case is stainless steel. A matching blue crocodile strap with ecru stitching completes the look. The pricing is the same as the black-dial model at €8,900.
PAM03314
Perhaps the title of “Most Distinctive Luminor Marina” goes to the PAM03314 with its matte white dial and stainless steel case. The Super-LumiNova blends into the dial instead of contrasting like on other models, creating a unique albino effect. The black crocodile strap provides contrast and matches the printing on the dial. Like the two before it, this watch will retail for €8,900.
PAM03323
The sole new Luminor Marina offered on a bracelet is PAM03323. It has a light blue sunray dial with crisp white Super-LumiNova. Unsurprisingly, this is a more expensive variant at €9,900.
The final Luminor Marina — PAM03325 Titanio
The fifth and final new Luminor Marina is reference PAM03325. Panerai calls this the Titanio because of its Grade 5 titanium case. The brushed case contrasts nicely with a polished bezel. Unlike the other models with crocodile straps, the Titanio comes with a green-gray calfskin strap and a titanium buckle. The price of €9,900 reflects the more challenging material.
Final thoughts
The new Luminor Marina collection should please those who appreciate the typical Panerai aesthetic. For those new to the brand, the thinner case and curved lugs should make the watches more appealing than the prior generation. We look forward to seeing these in person. Stay tuned for an in-depth, hands-on review of the Titanio version.
