Introducing: The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 115 Year Of The Snake Limited Edition
Oris proudly introduced its ProPilot X Calibre 115 in 2019. The launch event back then took place in Shanghai, China. Now, five years later, the brand introduces a new limited edition of its impressive ProPilot X with a 10-day power reserve for the upcoming Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese, 2025 will be the year of the Wood Snake, encouraging inner reflection and outward progress. Oris decided to honor this occasion with a limited-edition ProPilot X Calibre 115 dedicated to the year of the Wood Snake.
When Oris introduced the ProPilot X Calibre 115 in Shanghai, the emphasis was on the fully skeletonized movement. This allows the wearer to behold and fully enjoy the impressive mechanical construction of the hand-wound Oris Calibre 115. Of course, the movement inside the new limited-edition Oris ProPilot X Calibre 115 is still skeletonized, but there are some tweaks to connect it to this year’s theme. Let’s take a quick look.
The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 115 Year of the Snake Limited Edition
Since the introduction of the all-gray version almost five years ago, there have been no other variants of the ProPilot X Calibre 115. This new limited edition is technically identical to its predecessor. This means the case is 44mm wide, 12.5mm thick, and 50mm from lug to lug. Both the sleek-looking case and bracelet are made of Grade 2 titanium, while the engine-turned bezel is made of the slightly harder Grade 5 titanium alloy. The crown guards on the right side of the case protect the screw-down crown, and the whole construction is water resistant to 100 meters.
The thing that sets the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 115 apart from the rest of the ProPilot X models is its skeletonized movement. On the original model, the dial — or the frame that remained from it — was gray, just like the rest of the watch. On this new Year of the Snake Limited Edition, the open-worked dial has a cyan color, which refers to the Chinese zodiac element of wood. Another unique aspect of this version is the hand for the power reserve indicator in the shape of a snake’s tongue. It’s also gold so it can catch your attention a little better.
Through the back of the watch, you get an even better look at the Oris Calibre 115. However, it looks just like the original 2019 version of the ProPilot X. There are no unique features on the case back other than this version’s name and the LE number.
Oris Calibre 115
The Oris Calibre 115 is a hand-wound movement with an impressive power reserve. Its mainspring is 1.2 meters long. That’s why it can provide a power reserve of 10 days (240 hours). In reality, it’s even closer to 12 days, but Oris stays on the safe side by officially stating 10. The movement runs at a frequency of 21,600vph and features 38 jewels. On the dial is a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds register between 7 and 8 o’clock.
Initial impressions
It’s interesting to see Oris resurrect a watch that didn’t get a lot of attention since its introduction in 2019. I think the cyan color of the dial works great with the skeletonized movement. I’m not a fan of the monochrome look in general, so the more contrasting design of the ProPilot X Calibre 115 Year of the Snake Limited Edition is more to my liking.
The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 115 Year of the Snake is a limited edition of 88 pieces and costs €8,200. It’s already sold out on the Oris website, but it’s still available from the physical Oris boutiques and other retail partners around the world.
