Brellum releases many small runs of watches during any given year, so I was surprised to find that it’s been nearly six months since our last review. Now we’re back with a look at the new Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase LE Chronometer. Yes, that’s a mouthful, but the welcome news is that the watch now has a salmon dial. Plus, it’s available in a choice of case materials.

Last year, we reviewed the new Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase. At that time, the watch debuted with a silver dial and was limited to 46 pieces. The latest release sports a fashionable salmon dial. It’s also on trend with the option of a titanium case. Let’s take a closer look.

The latest Brellum Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase

The newest Brellum introduction sports a familiar 41.8mm by 51.8mm case with a 15.9mm thickness/ Buyers will have the option of a stainless steel or titanium case and matching clasp. Folks with larger wrists can rejoice that this piece bucks the current trend of smaller watches. Despite this Duobox’s dressy looks and multiple complications, the brand achieves a 100m depth rating. That’s a bonus when larger brands struggle to have their chronographs reach ratings above 50. The strap is handmade with an alligator pattern and a signed deployant clasp.

An opaline salmon dial

Part of the big news surrounding the latest Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase is a new opaline salmon dial. This tone has become increasingly popular across multiple watch brands and looks especially good on complicated watch dials. Indeed, the mix of polished metal elements, such as the indexes, logo, and hands, works well with the dial. The best contrasting details, though, must be the blue central chronograph hand and moonphase display. Compared to last year’s silver model, this one looks warmer and smaller because of the color choices. It also allows all of the details to stand on their own. Other details include Super-LumiNova on the main hands and two small pips at the top of the dial.

Some may decry the sheer amount of information on the dial of the Triple Calendar Moonphase, but the model’s name is a not-so-subtle hint that this isn’t a simple time-only watch. The upper register contains a 30-minute counter with windows for the month and day of the week. The lower register shows the moonphase indicator and houses a 12-hour counter. Then, the left register shows running seconds with a polished hand, and an underlying blue hand indicates day or night. Finally, the center shows hour and minute hands, the chronograph seconds, and a date pointer.

The COSC-certified Brellum BR-751

The Triple Calendar Moonphase uses the brand’s automatic BR-751 caliber, which uses the chronometer-certified Valjoux 7751 as a base. The slight modification is the use of a skeletonized bespoke 4N-gold-coated and numbered oscillating rotor. While the movement may not qualify as exotic, it’s an attractive sight througa the case back’s domed sapphire crystal. Spec-wise, the automatic caliber has a frequency of 28,800vph and 46 hours of power reserve. Perlage, Geneva stripes, and blued screws are part of the package.

Good news for those with medium to large wrists

With today’s shift to smaller diameters, the 41.8mm Triple Calendar Moonphase may strike some as passé or out of touch. However, our readers constantly remind us that there’s a big (literally) market for larger watches. This Brellum may not work well on my wrist, but watch brands must continue to produce pieces to fit different market segments.

The Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase — pricing and availability

The other reason why offering a larger watch makes sense is that Brellum creates very small batches. Just 33 of these watches will be made, and that includes a combination of stainless steel and titanium models. In other words, the exact amount of each is unknown until the orders roll in, but only 33 will be made with a salmon dial. The steel option has a retail price of CHF 3,690, which is the same price as last year’s silver-dial model. Titanium brings a slight increase and comes to CHF 3,890.

We’ve always been impressed by the finish of these watches, and buyers have reported a great customer service experience. What are your thoughts on Brellum and this newest release? As always, we encourage you to share your opinion in the comments section below.
