Introducing: The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix In A Rose Gold And Black Tuxedo-Like Outfit
When you think of Vacheron Constantin, the Fiftysix might not be the first watch you associate with the brand. Models like the 222 and the Overseas will probably come to mind first. However, like those, the Fiftysix is based on one of Vacheron Constantin’s true heritage pieces. Besides, it receives the same attention to detail and finishing. Vacheron Constantin has just introduced another rose gold version of the Fiftysix, and for the first time, it features a black dial.
The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix’s design is inspired by one of the brand’s vintage models from, unsurprisingly, 1956. That model had very handsome lugs based on the brand’s logo, the Maltese cross. The Fiftysix’s lugs look a bit different, but the visual reference to the 6073 from 1956 is still there. Let’s take a quick look at the new version with a rose gold case and a black sector dial.
The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix with a rose gold case and black dial
With its 40mm case, the Fiftysix is slightly bigger than its 1956 inspiration, which measured only 35mm in diameter. This new time-only version of the Fiftysix is only 9.6mm thick, and its lugs span 48mm across. The model has a slightly asymmetric 18K 5N rose gold case, which takes some of your attention away from the lugs. Nevertheless, it’s a nice touch as the crown sits slightly recessed into the right side of the case.
Like the other references in the Fiftysix collection, this new one also features a sector dial. The railroad track around its perimeter and the white one toward the center divide it into different parts. While the dial’s center has a fine opaline texture, the outer ring has received a sunburst finish. This effect is not very apparent in the press pictures, but I’m sure it’ll be visible in person.
The hour markers and Arabic numerals were cut out of the same rose gold material as the case, just like the hands. Also, the baton indexes and hour and minute hands are filled with a good amount of luminous material, which makes it easier to read the time in dark conditions. In addition, there’s a small cutout at 3 o’clock to display the white-on-black date disc.
The ValFleurier-produced caliber 1326
The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix is powered by the ValFleurier-manufactured caliber 1326. This is an automatic movement that runs at a 28,800vph frequency and holds a power reserve of 48 hours. The movement is visible through the exhibition case back. Through it, you get a good look at the Geneva stripes, the 22K gold rotor, and some of the movement’s 25 jewels. The Fiftysix features sapphire glass on both the top and bottom of the case, and the construction is water resistant to 30 meters.
Final thoughts
With its white-accented black dial, this new Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix reminds me of some of the elegant tuxedo dials out there. Together with the slender and polished rose gold case, this dial turns the Fiftysix into a dressy but also very stylish wrist companion. The watch comes on an anthracite nubuck strap made of calf leather, which takes the edge off a little and also makes it more suitable for less formal occasions. Of course, you could also change it out for any other 20mm strap you have in mind.
The new Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix with a rose gold case and mainly black dial is available now for €28,100. For more information, visit the official Vacheron Constantin website.
