Introduction: G-Shock MTG-B2000PH Blue Phoenix-Inspired Beauty
I am not a G-Shock collector like Gerard is, but I do have my share of them in my watch collection. G-Shock is gaining quite a bit of popularity amongst our readers, and we can surely imagine why. There’s a lot of value for money, and they’re also just fun to collect and wear.
The first G-Shock I bought was a 2003 20th anniversary model of the original watch. A few more followed, in all sorts of shapes and colors, but mostly made of resin. This new G-Shock MTG-B2000PH Blue Phoenix is made of metal and resin. Most important though is the motif on the case. A rainbow ion plating on the case and bezel of the MTG-B2000PH.
MTG-B2000PH
The G-Shock that is now introduced, is clearly something special. Not only because of the multi-colored dial and rainbow ion plating applied to its bezel and case, but also because of the specifications of the MTG-B2000PH. But let’s talk about the design first. The case, bezel, and dial are inspired by the Blue Phoenix, a bird of Eastern mythology. The Blue Phoenix can burn itself to death and then regenerate from its own ashes. I am happy that G-Shock added this to the press release of the watch because based on the watch itself I wouldn’t have guessed.
On the light-blue ion-plated bezel and case, you’ll find layers of yellow-to-red gradation applied. Crosswise on the bezel, lengthwise on the case. Every MTG-B2000PH will have its own unique color variation due to the plating process. On the dial, you’ll find colored accents matching the rainbow colors on the case and bezel. The pushers are gold-colored, as well as the 4 bolts of the bezel. The G-Shock MTG-B2000PH comes with a translucent navy-blue strap. The strap has a gold-colored keeper and buckle to match the pushers and bezel parts.
The construction of the MTG-B2000PH consists of G-Shock’s Triple G Resist (shock-resistant, centrifugal force-resistant, vibration-resistant). It has a water resistance of 200 meters. The dimensions of the Blue Phoenix are 55.1 ×51.0 × 15.9mm, by no means a small watch. Just like the other MTG models, this one also has a sapphire crystal. It is powered by G-Shock’s Tough Solar power system, ensuring about 29 months of continuous use with the power-saving function switched on.
G-Shock’s MTG-B2000PH has a number of functions: daily alarm, dual time (27 time zones), home time swapping, auto summer time (DST) switching, power saving, full auto-calendar, LED light. day and date display. On top, you can use it together with your smartphone (via Bluetooth) to manage automatic time setting, easy watch setting, world time for over 3000 cities, a phone finder, etc. The watch has a radio wave time calibration as well. Meaning that you don’t need the dedicated app to set the correct time.
So far, only the price in Japanese Yen has been communicated, which is 143,000 JPY (roughly 1100 Euros). The price for other markets will be communicated at a later time by G-Shock. The MTG-B2000PH will become available May 2021.
