Matthias Breschan, RADO CEO, Talks With Robert-Jan Broer Of Fratello
Just before the news hit us that Matthias Breschan (Rado) will be the successor of Longines CEO Walter von Känel, I had an interview with him. Although things are slowly getting better here in Europe, we still had to use a Zoom call to do the interview.
Times are a-changing, and the Swatch Group is endeavoring to change with them. Shuffling the positions of power within the group was a nice move. Different perspectives are always welcome. Mattias Breschan will bring his experience and enthusiasm to a post recently vacated by the long-serving von Känel.
Interview with Matthias Breschan
Breschan has been working for Swatch Group since 2000. He has been president of Rado since 2011 and will become the new CEO of Longines from July 1st. We spoke about the history of Rado, with particular focus on the ceramic models that were very popular in the 1990s and early 2000s.
However, this style of watch is not so popular with the current generation of watch enthusiasts. Looking at its own heritage, Rado found the Golden Horse and Captain Cook and decided to bring them back today. Both models have met with success.
We speak about the design of watches, today’s marketing methods, and e-commerce. I hope you enjoy the video, despite the Zoom-quality.
