Introducing: The Parmigiani Tonda PF Micro-Rotor With A Stone Blue Dial And A Full-Platinum Body
In the spring of 2023, Parmigiani Fleurier introduced an all-platinum version of the popular Tonda PF Micro-Rotor. Even the sandblasted dial was platinum, and it had a date window at 6 o’clock. Then, in the spring of 2024, the brand from Fleurier, Switzerland, introduced the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date. The omittance of a date window on that version made the Tonda PF look even cleaner and more understated than it already was. Now, as we creep up on spring 2025, Parmigiani Fleurier has combined those two versions and presents the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Platinum with a casual Stone Blue dial.
Wearing a Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF shows another watch enthusiast that you know your stuff. There are many sports watches with integrated bracelets from better-known brands out there. However, not many of those are as refined and under the radar as the Parmigiani Tonda PF. The all-platinum editions of the Tonda PF are the ultimate versions of these in-crowd favorites. Perhaps that’s why they’re limited to only 25 pieces.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Platinum Stone Blue
You might already know that the engine-turned-bezel on the Tonda PF is almost always made of platinum, even when the case is made of stainless steel. Platinum is denser and more durable than gold, so it makes sense to use it for a part that is prone to receiving some hits and scratches. But why not take it one step further? Just like the 2023 full-platinum version, the entire 40mm case is made of 950 platinum, the purest and noblest metal used in jewelry. This case offers a nice 45.6mm lug-to-lug and a lovely 7.8mm thickness.
The sandblasted platinum dial inside the previous platinum version had no extra color. This new version, however, has what Parmigiani calls a Stone Blue shade on the stepped dial in addition to its sandblasted finish. This creates a nice contrast between the rhodium-plated 18K gold skeletonized hands, logo, and hand-applied indexes. Another great “feature” here is the absence of an interrupting date window. It keeps the dial nice and clean, which matches the Tonda PF’s understated and refined character.
Just like the case, the integrated platinum bracelet has a mixture of brushed and polished finishes. It closes with a push-button-operated butterfly clasp.
Platinum micro-rotor
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Platinum Stone Blue houses the company’s PF703 automatic micro-rotor movement. This caliber runs at a frequency of 21,600vph, features 29 jewels, and holds a power reserve of 48 hours. The platinum micro-rotor is not unique to this platinum version, but it feels right at home in its all-platinum context. It also has a barley-grain guilloché finish. The movement’s bridges feature hand-finished Geneva stripes, perlage, and polished bevels. The impressive movement has a mere 3.07mm profile, which is a major contributor to this Tonda PF’s 7.8mm thickness. But don’t let that fool you because the watch is still water resistant to 100 meters.
Stone Blue is my kind of blue
With its CHF 85,000 price, the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Platinum Stone Blue is way above my budget. But apart from the price, isn’t this the perfect version of the Tonda PF? I mean, gold is nice, but platinum is so much better. You’ll feel its heft on your wrist, but others won’t notice it until you tell them about it or hand them the watch. In addition, the grayish Stone Blue color of the dial complements the precious metal perfectly. It’s certainly blue, but it’s a subdued shade, which goes great with the soft tones of the platinum case and bracelet.
Usually, the dials on the Tonda PF have a beautiful guilloché texture. I love that, but on this version, it would be a little out of place. This is the most understated and refined version of the Tonda PF, and it doesn’t need any fancy finishing to stand out in the crowd. It isn’t made to impress others, at least not from afar. It’s made to go fully under the radar and to be thoroughly enjoyed by its wearer.
