Introducing: The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph European Limited Edition In Green
Last year, TAG Heuer released two colorful versions of its 42mm Carrera Chronograph. Of course, the watches took inspiration from car racing. This year, the brand continues on the same track with a new limited edition that is only available in Europe. Although this one is also colorful, it’s a bit more toned down and sophisticated than the ones with orange and red detailing from last year. It almost looks like its green sunburst dial was inspired by the color of a Porsche Carrera, and the brown sub-dials could be the leather seats inside of it.
Maybe I’m a bit biased after seeing a short video clip that was shared alongside the press pictures of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph European Limited Edition. In it, a green, a yellow, and a gray Porsche 911 seem to be racing each other on a twisty mountain road. I just assume the drivers are all sitting in plush brown leather bucket seats and wearing yellow-framed sunglasses. Anyway, let’s take a look at this new green-dial TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph European Limited Edition.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph European Limited Edition
Many of you are probably familiar with the 42mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, which debuted with the Heuer 02 movement in 2020. If so, then this limited edition will offer few surprises apart from the dial. The stainless steel case has the classic, angular Carrera shape and features polished top surfaces and horizontally brushed sides. Including the slightly domed and protruding sapphire crystal, it measures 14.5mm thick. Finally, the fairly short lugs span 48.2mm from tip to tip. Honestly, I prefer the 39mm case of the Glassbox. However, I’m sure there are many people out there who’d rather have a slightly bigger watch.
The dial layout also hasn’t changed much for the new limited edition. It features applied baton indexes at the hours, an applied logo below 12, and a small cutout for the date at 6 o’clock. The chapter rings for the chronograph registers are slightly raised. Their dark brown color helps them stand out even a little more. The sub-seconds register at 6 o’clock is simply indicated by three crosshairs-like lines so as not to stick out much from the main dial. To add a sporty touch, the chronograph hands are bright yellow, just like the tips of the hour and minute hands.
The colors used suit each other well, and the yellow accents stand in a nice contrast to the green and brown. This results in a nice mix of sportiness and sophistication. The perforated brown leather strap with a folding buckle perfectly complements this vibe.
A familiar chronograph movement inside
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph European Limited Edition houses the familiar TH20-00 movement. An upgraded version of the Heuer 02, this is the automatic column-wheel chronograph caliber that now powers many other Carrera Chronographs. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph, features 33 jewels, and holds a power reserve of 80 hours. You can take a look at the movement through the exhibition case back. There, you’ll see the skeletonized rotor and the Geneva stripes on the bridges. It’s also nice to know that the watch is water resistant to 100 meters, as the case back indicates.
Final thoughts
I think this is a very nice version of the 42mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph. Many of the earlier versions just had one color on the dial. Then, there were last year’s models with red and orange accents. But somehow, there wasn’t really anything in between. With this new version in green and brown with vibrant yellow accents, there is.
If you want to buy this new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, you’ll need to know this: there are only 600 units, and they’re only available in Europe. It will cost €6,200 if you can get your hands on one. I was going to refer you to the official TAG Heuer website for more information.
