Just In Time For The Summer Olympics: The Omega Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition (BG859)
If you’re the winning type that just can’t get enough of it, why not strive to bag all the medals you can win? “Impossible,” you say? Maybe, but you can get the new 39mm Omega Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition, a watch that combines gold, silver, and bronze. This vintage-style timepiece pays tribute to the three medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in a special celebration of Paris 2024. The inspiration for this non-limited watch came from a 1939 wristwatch that housed the 30T2 manual-winding small-seconds caliber and featured the reference code CK 859, denoting the case material and shape. The new watch features the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8926, a manual-winding modern tribute to the famous original caliber.
Omega cheated a bit when crafting the Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition (ref. 522.92.39.21.99.001). It wasn’t enough to get disqualified, but still. Hear me out. The dial is made from sterling silver, the same alloy as the medal for those who come in second. It features a stamped (rather than an engine-turned) Clous de Paris pattern. How appropriate! Clous de Paris has its roots in French craftsmanship, and it was and remains a symbol of elegance and sophistication. Under the domed sapphire crystal, the dial, with its “Ag 925” silver hallmark, also shows a circular-brushed pattern on the minute track and sub-seconds track and a dark gray vintage-style Omega logo and indexes. To match the color of the case, the 18K Sedna Gold hands received a PVD Bronze Gold coating. And that brings us to the “foul play” in question.
The 39mm Omega Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition
The dial is silver, and the hands are gold, but where are the bronze parts? Short answer: there are none. Instead, you get Bronze Gold. In other words, cheating pays off. The Omega-exclusive alloy Bronze Gold is made from copper, silver, gallium, palladium, and 37.5% gold. Who wants regular bronze when you can have a uniquely gold-enhanced version of it?
The watch’s case back features more Olympic references. The “BG 859” engraving on the case back refers to Bronze Gold and the shape of the case. This follows the “CK 859” and “OT 859” references in historic technical sheets. The stamped and frosted medallion with a mirror-polished Paris 2024 logo featuring the iconic Olympic rings is the icing on the cake.
Behind the medallion
The movement inside the Bronze Gold case is a winner from a watch enthusiast’s perspective. The Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8926 is not only very accurate but also looks stunning because it received an exceptional luxury finish. Unfortunately, the magic is hidden behind the Olympic medallion. What you can see and feel above all is the brown calf-leather strap featuring a sandblasted Bronze Gold buckle with a polished vintage Omega logo. By the way, that’s the same vintage logo embossed on the watch’s crown.
The Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition’s look stems from a classic 1939 Omega wristwatch that debuted seven years after the brand became the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games. I have no idea what the price of the illustrious CK 859 watch was back then, but I do know that the price of the Specialities Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition is €13,300.
