Parmigiani Fleurier Presents The Tonda PF In Three Rose Gold Models With Alligator Straps
The stars truly aligned when Parmigiani Fleurier launched the Tonda PF collection in 2021. The collection epitomizing discreet elegance was unveiled to critical acclaim. Subsequent releases featuring the character-defining integrated bracelet continued to seduce the market. Now the Swiss watchmaker is adding a new dimension to the collection with a simple update to the accessories. The Tonda PF has suited up its three rose gold models — the Micro-Rotor, the Chronograph, and the Annual Calendar — with the introduction of alligator straps.
Watches with integrated bracelets may be popular, but not everyone wants all-metal armor. Even fewer are game for rocking full-on rose gold wrist gear. I’m sure Parmigiani is fully attuned to that and has had it all planned out in the product roadmap. What comes next is new strap options for three of the founding models of the Tonda PF (Nacho covered the collection’s debut here last year). It is a nifty move to expand the looks and versatility of the collection while keeping the market engaged. The latter is particularly tactical as the independent brand has reportedly maxed out its manufacturing capacity for this year (as we shared here), thanks to the PF’s sell-out success.
Alligator strap pairings
The new straps are crafted in alligator leather in three sober colors to correspond to the palette of the dials. Coherently integrated into the 18K rose gold cases, the straps complement the refined aesthetics of the Tonda PF. The second skins fasten securely with a new 18K rose gold triple-blade deployant buckle fitted with side pushers to open it. The asymmetrical and clean design of the buckle has carved a PF logo in relief. The exotic leather straps bring both value and organic wearing comfort to the high-mechanical models. Let us take a look at each of them.
Tonda PF Micro-Rotor
We are no strangers to the PF Micro-Rotor at Fratello because our very own Andreas Ahrens acquired one of them this year and wholeheartedly shared his personal journey here. More than meets the eye, the clean lines and curves of the model coalesce from an array of meticulous details, patterns, and shapes. Such imperceptible refinement is born of the eponymous micro-rotor for the 40mm time-and-date model. The in-house PF703 caliber with a platinum micro-rotor is what gives the model its 7.8mm-slim profile. The ultra-thin movement is a mere 3mm in height and on full display through the case back for the wearer’s viewing pleasure.
Warm Grey Alligator
The new 18K rose gold version this year shares the same specifications in a precious metal casing. It pairs with a “Warm Grey” alligator leather strap to match the dark grey dial featuring the PF’s signature super-fine Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern. This PF Micro-Rotor combo is pure class and priced at CHF 35,000.
Tonda PF Chronograph
Combining understated elegance with high-octane performance for its design architecture, the Tonda PF Chronograph is not your typical sports-luxe watch. Forsaking the usual macho vibes of a sports chronograph, the PF expression is so pared down that it wouldn’t look out of place as a dress watch.
But don’t let the looks fool you. This Tonda PF Chronograph is what Parmigiani calls “a precision machine”. The engine inside is the independent brand’s manufacture caliber PF070. This chronometer-certified integrated chronograph movement employs a column wheel system and beats 36,000vph (5Hz) to offer exceptional timing precision. You can admire its inner workings through the sapphire case back, as well as its 22K rose gold open-work rotor with a suspended PF logo medallion.
Milano Blue Alligator
In addition to the time and date, the new “Milano Blue” dial displays elapsed hours and minutes as well as running seconds against a Grain d’Orge guilloché backdrop. It uses slightly darker blue rings to frame the sub-registers and railroad-style tracks for the markings. The blue face is composed and subdued, which contrasts beautifully with the 18K rose gold case and detailing. The 42mm casing is 12.4mm thick and is integrated with the Milano Blue leather strap. The Tonda PF Chronograph is available for CHF 45,000.
Tonda PF Annual Calendar
Crafting a highly complex instrument is a feat in itself, let alone conforming the execution to a level of aesthetic purity that the PF exemplifies. The Tonda PF Annual Calendar clearly demonstrates what the Fleurier-based independent is capable of. On the inside, the mechanism operates a plethora of functions with extreme intricacies. The PF339 caliber powers a retrograde date, day, month, and 122-year moonphase as seen in both hemispheres. On the outside, the dial must display the respective temporal, calendrical, and astronomical readings as cleanly as possible.
Brown Alligator
Masterfully, the PF Annual Calendar delivers all the information with absolute clarity and readability. The dark grey Grain d’Orge guilloché dial with a tri-register layout stays true to the PF’s design code of simplicity. As such, it brings an incredible balance to the overall aesthetics. Housing this mechanical marvel is a 42mm rose gold case outfitted with a brown alligator strap, which complements the grey dial harmoniously. This combo for the PF Annual Calendar with a moonphase function retails for CHF 53,000.
