We published an article with our favorite picks for this year’s GPHG 2024 awards ceremony two weeks ago. Then, during last week’s ceremony, we got to see whether our favorites won. We were happy to see several of our picks take home the award in their respective categories. But we also were completely wrong about some others. Also, some watches we picked ended up winning in different categories. Let’s go over all the winners of the GPHG 2024 and find out how well we did!

As watch enthusiasts, we were eager to discover the winning timepieces of the GPHG 2024 awards ceremony. This event is a yearly celebration of the wide variety of watch brands and their creations, and it highlights the technical and artistic wizardry in the watch industry. This year, however, we were extra interested. As mentioned, we made a list of our top picks to win each category. Of course, we wanted to determine whether the Academy agreed with us. But another fun thing is that there were awards in more categories than initially announced. Because of this, we saw some of our picks take home different prizes. This element of surprise helps keep things exciting. Now, without further ado, let’s find out what the winners of this year’s GPHG 2024 are and finish with some closing thoughts.

Final thoughts on the award winners of the GPHG 2024

There you have it — the full list of winners for this year’s GPHG! Looking at the results, Van Cleef & Arpels was the night’s biggest winner, taking home three awards, followed by Chopard with two awards. It was also fun to see that we predicted the victory for the Otsuka Lotec No.6, Kudoke 3 Salmon, Daniel Roth Tourbillon Souscription, and Piaget Polo 79 in their respective categories. We also called wins for the IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Eternal Calendar and the Bernard Lederer 3 Times Certified Observatory Chronometer, but they ended up winning different prizes.

IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar
Rather than the Calendar & Astronomy award that we predicted it would win, the IWC won the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix, which goes to the show’s overall winner. It’s a well-deserved award for an exceptional watch. As I explained in the article about our GPHG 2024 picks and Robert-Jan did in his longer article about the watch, it is a mind-blowing technical tour de force.

The Lederer 3 Times Certified Observatory Chronometer won the bonus Chronometry award, though we had predicted it would win in the Time Only category. However, as I said in the previous article, we feel that Lederer’s stunning creations should win any award for which they are nominated. So it was great to see that this incredibly accurate mechanical timepiece still won a prize, just in a different category.

All in all, we did pretty well! Were there any watches we felt deserved an award but didn’t get one? Well, we would have loved to see the Singer Reimagined Divetrack and Louis Vuitton × Rexhep Rexhepi LVRR-01 Chronographe à Sonnerie win awards for pushing the boundaries in watchmaking. But we certainly do not want to disparage the watches that won awards instead of them. If anything, the GPHG showed plenty to admire in all the categories, and the IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar is a worthy overall winner.
