The New Awake Summetria Collection Gets The Balance Right
The new Awake Summetria collection evokes feelings of symmetry and visual balance. With the watches’ guilloché dials and a lack of superfluous detailing, the result is a highly harmonious design. Four limited-production dial colors will be available, ensuring that all who like the design should find a pleasing hue.
I recently had the opportunity to meet the founders of Awake at the WatchPro event in London. That also allowed me to go hands-on with the young brand’s offerings for the first time. I was impressed by both the people and the watches. Awake’s releases look minimalistic in photos, but in person, they’re anything but simple. The attention to detail that goes into making a well-finished and well-fitting case is evident along with the models’ notable rehauts. My favorite little detail, though, is how their hexagonal screw-down crowns always align perfectly. Today’s Summetria collection builds off of this familiar foundation, yet it still manages to look fresh.
The Awake Summetria collection
The new Summetria collection takes its inspiration from the delicate balance and harmony found within nature. Awake has stated that the sunflower heart is the inspiration for its set of guilloché dials. However, unlike the sunflower, four different colors will be available. Royal blue, black, dark green (khaki), and copper are the choices. The brand’s familiar handset and indices come into play, giving off a no-nonsense military vibe. The simplicity is appropriate for watches that are meant to focus on the dials.
Great for everyday wear
The Summetria watches feature a titanium case with a 40mm diameter and a 11.89mm thickness. The sapphire crystal and screw-down crown afford water resistance to 100 meters. Since I’ve now tried on a similar Awake watch, I can confirm that this is a very comfortable piece that almost disappears on the wrist due to its lightness. The curved lugs hug the wrist, and the overall form from head-on creates a smooth, nearly organic look that I truly enjoyed. And again, there’s that crown that lines up perfectly every time.
Most Awake watches contain some sort of messaging on the rehaut, and these pieces are no different. Here, the surface indicates the limited nature of 50 pieces of each color. No matter which dial tone is chosen, each will come with a handmade gray leather strap that comes from an ethical source.
As far as additional specs, the Summetria collection uses the familiar Miyota 9039 with a 42-hour power reserve. It’s on display via a screw-down case back and contains the brand’s bespoke rotor design. As an aside, in real life, I found the engraved area around the display window finished very well, and it came off as expensively done.
Pricing and availability for the Awake Summetria
The Awake Summetria will be available for order on the brand’s website for €890. This price puts the watch in line with recent releases, and after seeing Awake’s offerings in person, I think they offer a lot of value for the money. These latest dials work quite nicely in the brand’s case design and combine a level of elegance with subtle sportiness. If the design is of interest to you, I’d highly recommend giving one a try.
