The Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch — Now Available For Purchase Online!

I bought all 11 MoonSwatch models from the first batch. Took me one year to complete, and love them all! Good to see that they are becoming available to Swatch fans in China and the USA. I hope other countries will follow.

When it comes to myself I see a difficult to argument this plastic watch to myself, even sometimes I would like to buy it (It seems that sometimes I buy stuff just for dopamine rush).

I started buying mechanical watches as a ”counter initiative” to this culture where you buy new stuff when something is broken and repairs are out of question or too expensive. My friends have used same argument for collecting mechanical watches: sustainability, limited resources on planet earth, life time watch and so on. Many watch collectors dislike DW etc, but it’s interesting that suddenly these Swatch watches are somehow better, although the quality/price ratio is questionable, I am not saying it’s bad.

I started watch collecting 15 years ago and the amount of watches I have bought during last, let’s say 5 years is ridiculous. Probably in my case it’s more kind of addiction and I think social media, reading various watch media, watch companies publish watches all the time (before it was more like once a year during Basel World) and my own rised disposable income have been main catalysts for that. Watch hobby has also kind of blurried value of money in my head. 1500€ Doxa sub200t was kind of ”cheap” watch, which I bought one week ago. These MoonSwatches for 250-300€ are ”just for fun” etc.

In my opinion these MoonSwatches or Blancpains are going so much against the idea of mechanical watches and branding that it kind of interesting phenomenon. It kind of shows the power of consumerism and need to buy more stuff, if not needed, even just for fun. My own goal is to be happy what I have, but it’s not easy 😊.

Nay to those who don’t understand the crossover marketing that made a lot of Swatch owners the newest fans of Omega and brought tons of attention to both brands. Like it or not, the MoonSwatch was genius.

This was a fun and successful collaboration. I didn’t buy one because I’d have to drive ten hours and stay in a hotel and drive back, with no guarantee they’d the one I want. I prefer mechanical watches but that didn’t stop me from buying the white G-Shock NASA a couple years ago, just for fun, that was available online. The MoonSwatch is supposed to be fun too.

Lighten up. Buy one. I’m going to do that when I finally decide which one and then clear a slot in the chronograph watch box next to my 145.022. Watches should put a smile on your face, it doesn’t have to be because it was expensive. It’s like buying the $300 scale model of your luxury car to put on your desk. It’s kind of a toy, but all the doors open and the wheels turn when you turn the steering wheel, only it’s so much better, and probably more accurate than your vintage Speedy. Just saying.
