The Platinum Seamaster 300M: Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gift
One of the items of the 2019 Neiman Marcus’ Fantasy Gift is an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera designed by Daniel Craig. A car that comes with a ‘free’ Omega Seamaster 300M ‘007’ in platinum, only 7 pieces.
I had never heard of Neiman Marcus before, let alone their annual Fantasy Gifts. A closer look shows a $70.000 luxury doghouse from Rockstar Puppy (by Denise Richards), which includes a video chat with Denise. Or what to think of a one-of-a-kind pair of Christian Louboutin for $125.000. Or what about a date with Jeff Staple (sneaker designer), and on top of a romantic dinner with him, you will receive eight pairs of his collaboration sneakers. Price tag? $110.000, and that’s without the option of having your sneakers signed by your date.
Perhaps the above says more about me than about Neiman Marcus, but I am massively confused by all this. It isn’t my world, and it will never be, even if I had the financial resources. But I guess Neiman Marcus knows their clientele best and decided to add an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, designed by Daniel Craig. Based on the images, I don’t know what is precisely that different from the regular DBS Superleggera, to be honest. Anyway, for the price of $700,007, you will not only receive the car, but also one ticket to London (I assume it will be First Class), two tickets to the No Time To Die movie (make a local friend quickly for that extra ticket, or rent one) and of course, one of the 7 limited edition Seamaster 300M watches in platinum. Neiman Marcus will donate 12% of each Fantasy Gift purchase to charity.
Our friends over at JamesBondLifeStyle.com did a bit of an analysis on the Aston Martin, which you can read here. So far, it seems the only thing Neiman Marcus did was having a Photoshop session on existing pictures of the Aston Martin with some minimal changes. Let’s hope they will actually do something cool to the car that will make it worthwhile.
Omega Seamaster 300M 007 Platinum
Anyway, my interest is solely in the Omega Seamaster 300M 007 model in platinum, which is based on the edition I reviewed here. The case and bracelet are a special alloy of platinum and gold (like the Speedmaster Platinum Caliber 321). The 42mm case is based on the 300M model, and the platinum dial shows resemblance with the earlier introduced ‘007’ limited editions with the gun barrel motif. The watch features a Bond family coat-of-arms design at 12 o’clock, and the same family crest hand-engraved and platinum-filled on the sapphire crystal caseback. On the dial, you’ll find the hour markers and hands made of 18K white gold, of course. Just like the Globemaster in platinum that was introduced in 2015, the stitching on the leather strap is also done with platinum. The folding clasp is also made of this platinum and gold alloy, of course.
This limited edition Omega Seamaster 300M ‘007’ is powered by the in-house developed and manufactured caliber 8807 movement. It’s Master Chronometer certified, but that almost goes without saying.
It is one of the few watches that Omega is offering in full platinum, meaning it includes a platinum bracelet. It looks impressive, in my opinion, and as I wrote above, I am more excited about this watch than about the Aston Martin. A good friend of mine used to own an Aston Martin DB9 and his ‘there are just two awesome days as the owner of an Aston Martin, the day you buy it and the one you sell it’ remark ruined the dream of owning one a bit for me. But if you’re a 007 die-hard and have the financial resources, it might be an exciting package deal for $700,007.
That said, I think the regular 300M Bond version in titanium with its mesh bracelet excites me more than all of the above.
