This Week in Watches: September 5, 2020 New Edition
It’s time for This Week in Watches for September 5, 2020 the new edition. There are more things to life than Rolex, so let’s take a look at what else dropped.
Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary L.E. SBGR321
Our first new watch this week comes from Grand Seiko. GS is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year and continues to roll out new models under the theme. The 40mm SBGR321 comes in titanium and is powered by the 9S65 automatic. 2,500 pieces of this blue-dialed watch will be made and are available in October. Grand Seiko calls out the sunrise and how it radiates into their Japanese studios.
I’m not sure we need a story all the time because the blue dial looks lovely. That trend continues on the display case back with a blue titanium rotor and red ring. The watch comes on bracelet and will retail for an attractive €5,300. Visit Grand Seiko for more information.
Sinn U1 DE
Next is perhaps my favorite new watch of the week and it comes from a brand that’s “um die Ecke” from me. That’s Frankfurt-based Sinn of course! Sinn is celebrating the 30th anniversary of German reunification with the limited edition U1 DE diver. Firstly, Sinn tells us that the watch shows Germany’s national flag colors. I see that with the gold seconds hand, Black Hard Coating using TEGIMENT technology, and red highlights. Still, I actually think it’s quite subtle and appealing to those outside of Germany. Everything else is familiar U1 and that means that it’s steel and 44mm in diameter. Just 300 will be made with prices from €2,350 to €2,740 depending on your choice of strap or bracelet. Head to Sinn for more information.
Zenith DEFY Black & White Boutique Editions
Zenith returns with more new colors for its DEFY collection. Both the 41mm DEFY Classic and the 44mm DEFY 21 chronograph are available with these contrasting shades. The cases are made of black microblasted ceramic and are paired with white ceramic bezels.
Whichever you choose, they come on a black and white cordura rubber strap. 100 of the DEFY 21 will be made with a retail price of $13,600. The Classic sees serial production and will cost $8,200. Both watches are available now online at Zenith or at Zenith boutiques.
Casio G-Shock GA-900
Casio is typically Gerard’s territory, but I’ll take a swing at announcing these new G-Shock GA-900’s. Firstly, these watches derive their looks from industrial design. Casio even spells this out by explaining that the bezel should remind us of a nut. The dial has an ana-digi display and cross-hatched buttons (for grip). They’re not solar, but they have a Casio best 7-year battery. The watches are currently on sale for $120 – 160 depending on the color. Visit Casio G-Shock for more information.
Folks, that’s all for new watches this week. Enjoy your weekend!
