Watches & Wonders 2021: Introducing the New Cotton Candy Oris Divers Sixty-Five Bronze Models
By now, you may have noticed I have a strong affection for Oris watches. For me, it kicked off with the Divers Sixty-Five that I purchased in 2015. For Oris, this vintage-inspired model was a crucible for the revitalization of the brand. From there, Oris has gone strength-to-strength. By releasing a myriad of limited-edition models, chronograph options, and recently the third bronze Carl Brashear edition with Calibre 401, Oris has certainly kept us on our toes. Today, Oris unveils a trio of bronze watches with surprising “Cotton Candy” color codes for its latest trick.
The new Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy receives a complete Bronze treatment on the bezel, case, and bracelet. However, most apparent is the bright pastel dial colors that break away from the typically dark and drab color schemes we have seen before. While the trio of blue, green, and pink are collectively called “Cotton Candy,” the names of the tones — Sky blue, Wild green, and Lipstick pink — are not precisely flavors you’d find at the carnival.
Cotton candy cornucopia
A fascinating aspect I can imagine is how these dial colors will look with the developing patina of the bronze cases. Each model is available in a new diameter size of 38mm to the Sixty-Five range that is sure to appeal to various wrist sizes. This case dimension also compares closely to the vintage inspiration skin diver from the ’60s, albeit with fresh and funky dials. Along with the shrinking diameter is the lug width reduction from the typical 20mm to 19mm. The bracelet also follows the pattern of the bronze Hölstein edition by using screws instead of faux rivets and plates on the edges of the links.
…colorful dials in gentlemanly dimensions are what will lure today’s consumers…
I have to say this was not what I was expecting from Oris. But after taking a look back at the previous year, I can see why punchy pastel colors are making an entrance. With such a dark aura over our heads, it’s good to bring a sense of vibrancy into our lives. I even said in this article about the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual that “…colorful dials in gentlemanly dimensions are what will lure today’s consumers toward the coronet.” This is also true of Oris and its expanding clientele.
Impressions and pricing
Despite the case reduction to 38 mm, 100 meters of water resistance is still guaranteed. Also, the same Sellita SW200-1 provides the watch’s mechanical timekeeping with 38-hours of power reserve. The new Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy is sure to have its fair share of fans and detractors. But with summer fast approaching, the time is now to consider a brighter outlook for the year ahead. On the bronze bracelet, the Sixty-Five Cotton Candy is 2,500 CHF and 2,200 CHF for the brown leather strap option. I would lean more towards the wild green dial, but the pink may develop a strong fanbase. You can read more about the new Oris models here.
