Zelos Abyss 2 3000m. Engineered for the Extremes.
Since its inception in 2014, Zelos has been a microbrand popular for its bronze timepieces. Bronze has always been closely linked to the sea as it is one of the most corrosion resistant metals available. A patina forms over time, creating completely unique pieces. What starts out as a shiny rose-gold, ages with the atmosphere into a rustic brown. Hence, bronze was the perfect choice for a diver’s watch made for the deepest depths.
Zelos Abyss 2 3000M
The Abyss 2 was engineered for the extremes. It offers 3000m of water resistance, the pressure at that depth is enough to crush steel. A 7mm thick and highly domed sapphire crystal is built to withstand the forces that would crush most regular sapphire crystals. The Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movement ensures it will function for years to come. Despite its beefy appearance, the dimensions of the watch are kept reasonable at 43mm and 51mm lug to lug length. This keeps it wearable for those with smaller wrists. Finer details are also not forgotten as well. The edges of the case are chamfered with a polished finish, and the buckle is CNC machined with a custom designed cutout.
The dial is built for maximum legibility even in the darkness of the oceans. A generous coating of Swiss Superluminova is applied across the dial and bezel to offer a bright glow. A mixture of C3 and BGW9 luminous compound is used for a two-toned glow. Both crowns have luminous paint applied to the logo as well. An internal bezel operated by the 2 o’clock crown is used to track a different timezone, this offers a functionality rarely found on dive watches.
A definite conversation starter is the Meteorite dial edition. It is made from a metal approximately 4.5 billion years old from space with a striking design unlike any other material. Each and every meteorite dial used in the Abyss has a different pattern, otherwise known as the Widmanstatten Patterns. This dial is from the Muonionalusta meteorite which is found in Sweden and landed over a million years ago.
The ‘Turbine’ edition of the Abyss 2 offers a unique take on the sub seconds subdial. The turbine at 6 o clock is fashioned after a submarine’s propeller and rotates as a seconds hand. The Sellita SW260 powers this unique edition of the Abyss 2.
With its impressive list of features, the Abyss 2 is priced reasonably starting at $569. Each variant is limited in production to only 100 pieces and they will have an individual serial number. Whether you’re a diver or someone who appreciates a solidly built timepiece, the Abyss 2 makes for a highly functional tool watch.
