Zenith Supports The Komen Foundation With The Chronomaster Original Pink Time-Limited Edition
You may have heard of Movember, a November-long event in which men grow a mustache to raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer. Did you know October is also a big month? For nearly four decades, Breast Cancer Awareness Month goes into overdrive in October when there is a lot of pink around. Understandably, you may not notice it if pink doesn’t enter your periphery or if you’re not exposed to any media source for women (or, ahem, any women). In that case, it may take a watch brand and watch media to bring it to your attention… And here we are!
Zenith Chronomaster Original Pink
As a time-limited offer during the month of October, Zenith has released a pink-dial Chronomaster Original special edition. The brand’s boutiques all around the world are showcasing this pink retro-classic to help raise awareness about breast cancer. Twenty percent of the sale proceeds of the Chronomaster Original Pink will go directly to the world-renowned Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Going the extra mile
This is not the first time Zenith has actively supported the movement. Last year, the Swiss watchmaker created a one-off timepiece for The Pink Dial Project, of which Fratello was a media partner, as RJ shared here. Zenith’s Chronomaster Revival A3818 ‘Covergirl’ Pièce Unique fetched $32,000 against an estimate of $11,000, with all proceeds going to breast cancer charities. In the same month, the brand also donated a DEFY Midnight unique piece to a fundraiser held by the Swiss breast cancer charity Pink Ribbon Switzerland.
The Komen Foundation
Demonstrating its continued commitment to the cause, Zenith is at it again. This year, the brand lends its support to the world’s leading nonprofit breast cancer organization. When Susan Komen died of breast cancer in 1980, her sister Nancy Brinker vowed to eradicate the disease and set up the Foundation two years later to pursue this mission.
Today, the Foundation is the world’s largest funder of breast cancer research outside of the US government. It has raised over US$3.3 billion to offer direct patient and community support, provide high-quality care and trustworthy information, and push research breakthroughs for a cure. Zenith backs the Foundation’s ongoing fight against the disease that affects one in eight women and countless families around the world.
A descendant of A386
The Chronomaster Original Pink is a special iteration in the brand’s retro-inspired chronograph series that debuted last year. Sharing the same proportions as the iconic 1969 original A386, the 38mm Chronomaster Original Pink features a round brushed and polished steel case with faceted straight lugs, a knurled crown, and polished pump pushers. It is fitted with a three-link steel bracelet complete with polished center links and brushed outer links with polished bevels.
The El Primero 3600
The metallic pink sunray dial displays three sub-registers for running seconds, elapsed seconds, and elapsed minutes. In the center, we find the hour, minute, and elapsed 1/10th-of-a-second hands while a date window sits between 4 and 5 o’clock. Topping it off is a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. At the heart is Zenith’s latest-generation El Primero 3600 caliber. This 5Hz high-frequency automatic movement operates the elapsed 1/10th-of-a-second chronograph function and provides 60 hours of power reserve. You can admire this super engine in its full glory through the exhibition case back.
The Chronomaster Original Pink is a special edition available between the 1st and 31st of October exclusively from Zenith’s physical boutiques or via its website. The price for this special edition is €9,700. Zenith will donate 20% of your purchase to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
